There are wood grain decals available. That might work.

Jazz,
On several 1/48 scale WWI planes I've made I actually carved the props out of hardwood and once shaped and sanded, varnished them. I did this as I couldn't get a realistic wood grain using the paints I have.
It's a lot of messing about but at least I got a prop that looked like wood. Maybe other folks out there have a better way using paint - probably oils.
Cheers

Hi all. I am puting the finishing touches on the Hasagawa Wright Flier . Man-o-man what a beautiful kit-------till you get to the cheesey plastic propellers. Dont know what they were thinking, but anyway sure could use some advice on how to get a good wood grain look. Then best effect so far has been to brush paint them semi goss black intentionaly leaving heavy bush lines. Then air brushing shades of brown followed by a very light sanding with 1200 grit. But I think it could be better. Any ideas?
Thanks Jazz
