I have built a number of the Monogram F-18s. Although mine are the updated 'C' models, the kit is still based on the original molding which you have. The Monogram Hornet is not a bad kit at all, and I have found it to be very accurate, and nicely detailed. The fit is indeed, not the best but with care in lining up the parts, they can be minimized. the main problem area is the division between the main upper and lower halves. Pulling the LEXs downward and securing them with duck tape (yes duck tape- it can hold tighter than masking tape and longer) did cut back on the amount of filling I needed.Securing all around the fuselage well with tape is a good idea in general. The only accuracy qualm that I have heard of is that up until the molds were converted to F-18C standards the vertical fins were 1/4 inch too short. Adding 1/4'' to the bottom of each fin might do the trick. I think I have a spare set of "correct" fins lying around if you want them. I'm sorry I don't have any suggestions for the markings short of masking and painting them on. Good luck! I hope your prototype bird turns out!

Sorry I can't help with the decals, but the kit will require a lot of putty. Especially for the seam where the upper and lower fuselage comes together.

Old 1/48 Monogram F/A-18 kit

I bought a Monogram F/A-18 kit and I wanted to build it out-of-the-box. The decal sheet features the prototype markings but they are off-register that i think would make the model a litle toy-like and inaccurate. However, I still want to build a model of this airplane without using the decal sheet (or the major markings showing the blue and golden ribbon). Does anyone know where I can get a decal sheet of this prototype airplane or, at least, any information on the color scheme of the said jet (I am thinking about painting the ribbons myself). Also, if you have anything to point out about the inaccuracy of the kit before i build it, pls do so and it will be very much appreciated. Thanks.Smile [:)]
