F4F-3S Wild Catfish

That would be 1/48 right? I need 1/72 scale. I have found some nice 1/72 scale drawings, who knows maybe I'll put out a conversion.

Check with meteor productions I'm pretty sure they sell a resin conversion for the Tamiya kit for the F4F-3S,the instructions should give you everything you need.Originally someone from I believe southern Illinois did the original conversion along with the ski-conversion for the C-130 and a 5 engine HE-111 glider tug.and meteor got the molds from them.Their excellant conversions and it sure beats scratchbuilding or converting 2 floats.

Yeah, Duane Pfister was the Scale Modeler Gypsy for a long while. I had mixed feelings about his "advertising". Seemed kinda cheesy, but being a commission builder myself now and again, I can see the value of doing what he did. Still seems cheesy though!

Hey, wasn't Duane Phister the guy that used Scale Modeler magazine as a vehicle to sell his models? At the end of each article he would mention that the model was for sale... I used to really hate that.

Those floats look similar to the ones in the Monogram Cessna 180 kit. I don't remember what scale it was, though. Was it 1:48?? The Airfix 1:32 Tiger Moth also had some floats, but I can't recall what they were like.

Thanks for the assist blackwolfscd. Any pictures or drawings would help greatly. I have 1/72 & 1/48 scale drawings of the Edo floats (model Wa 4665) used on the Wild Catfish prototype if anybody is interested.

Here's one shot I found on the web, and I have a couple more that I can scan and fire off to 'ya.



I used to have an article out of an old Scale Modeler (did I mention that rag on the FSM site?!? ) by Duane Pfister, he converted the old Monogram kit to the F4F-3S. I know fersher that it had 3-views included. I may have tossed it after all these years, but I'll grunge around and see if I still have it.
