Corsiars

For the WWII F4U-1 series Corsairs, the Tamiya 1/48 releases are the best in my opinion, with the Hobbycraft/Acadamy 1/48 kits a less expensive but lower quality alternative. For later F4U-5/7 Corsairs, the 1/48 Hasegawa kits are excellent, but their F4U-4 is an older kit and not of the same quality. Never tried the prototype Corsair as thats just about a scratch build and lifes too short.

So many kits so little time.

Probably the best Corsair kits out there right now are the 1/48th F4U-1 series from Tamiya. Have not looked at the Hasegawa 1/48th F4U-5, F4-7 and AU-1 yet. I think I remember seeing a prototype conversion done in 1/72nd scale many years ago. Involves more than just moving the cockpit forward. Lots of little things to be done. What may be the best reference on the Corsair available right now is "Detail & Scale" volumes 1 & 2 which covers the whole Corsair series.
