Upnorth,

Certainly, that may be the case. I've known a few people named Nazir in my time too. But they knew better and spelled their name Naze. In any case, again this is a modeling website and should be used as such. I just thought it was an issue that needed to be addressed.

Well, as much controversy as this seems to have caused, for whatever reason "nazi" turned up in this screen name, weather its a political view, perfectly legitimate given or pet name in another culture or otherwise. In this day and age and for the reasons this site exists, We should not have let itgrip andrive us to going off so quickly as we have, as synaptically as we have come to do so at the very sound of the word "nazi"

To the issue of given names in other cultures, I do recall going to school and having a new student join us. I didn't know the student well and can't recall if they were male or female anymore, but their name was Nazir or something very similar and their family had recently imigrated from the Middle East.

To this person "Nazi" was a perfectly acceptable diminutive of their name where they came from and so thats how they signed their name when they first came to us. When we told them what people in most parts of the world think when they see the term "Nazi", they very quickly came up with a new version of the nickname.

Its one possibility.lets just leave this as a friendly advisory to the holder of that screen name that their screen name at present does not translate well culture to culture and should be changed for everybody's peace of mind.

Shall we put this to bed now until we know if anything truly sinister is afoot?

My goodness! I'm 14 years old and not even I would be stupid enough to come up with a screen name like that! Even if he is from thailand and can't speak english properly he should not have done such a thing.

Well, certainly, if this is a case of cultural differences, I understand completely. And I apologize as well. Still, as with many others, it certainly stoked my ire.

Gee guys, I come here for fun, not to get worked up over crap like this! BACK TO MODELLING!

For whatever it's worth, in SOME language (I forget), there's actually a given (ie "first") name spelled that way (though if memory serves it's pronounced "nahh-zeee" - no "t").

No, really -I remember a kid with that name when I was in college. Can't remember where they were from for the life of me though. I'll be honest, the screen-name in question DID raise my eyebrow, but I like to give the benefit of the doubt when I can....

QUOTE: An encyclopedia of mine says that he finished off as a captain

This is correct:
QUOTE: Kapitän (Captain): September 1, 1944
Hauptsächlich (Major): May 8, 1945

Germany surrendered on May 7, 1945.

As to the screen name: Nazi is a contraction of national socalist (which most of us know). The political party and swastika were around long before Hitler and while both have a negative connotation in most of the world they aren't "evil" in their own right. What Hitler and his minions did must NEVER be forgotten but it must be kept in the proper light. Remember that Stalin was worse than Hitler but we don't have the same revulsion for "communist" or a red star as we do with the swastika and "nazi".

All that to say let's not jump on the guy until we know the facts, it would be an injustice.

I'll be the first one to apologize if that's the case.

This just might be his name --- pronounced Na-zi, not Not-zi? I looked through some of his posts. I don't see the German bent in his posts or modleing. He mentions working on other models. Also, written English is obviously not even a second language for him. I'm afraid accusations are being made that he doesn't have the language skills to answer.

I believe pongpeera is from Thailand. He might not have the same appreciation of the negative connotations the word nazi bring to us here in the west. Give him a chance to change it.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who has a problem with it. That's not to say I'm not interested in German WWII military subjects. The 21 FW-190s and 18 Me-109s in my parents basement will testify to that. I certainly am a Luftwaffe enthusiast, even though my professional studies lay elsewhere.

However, despite my interest, I'm also a Jew, if not by practice then at least by birth and heritage. If your name is what it appears to be, your kind makes me sick.

Do yourself a favor, get a new nickname.

I don't usually get on anyone's case about screen names, but yours does pique one's curiosity. An explanation would be most welcome.

Incorporating the term "nazi" into it for whatever reason, doesn't exactly make others feel that your welcome mat is out to everybody and may make people think twice before answering any questions you might have.

If you want all your questions answered, you might want to edit your screen name a touch, so that some people who would otherwise give you answers don't avoid you completely.

History teaches many things, the term "nazi" in whatever context it appears, is one of those things that most folks around the world have been taught to look down upon and not associate themselves with at any level.

If your own personal views on things don't reflect the philosophies of the Nazi movement, please do yourself the favour of changing your screen name.

I have been curious also. May we have an explanation?

To answer your question:
Erster Leutnant (First Lieutenant): July 1, 1944
Kapitän (Captain): September 1, 1944
Hauptsächlich (Major): May 8, 1945
Leutnant Oberst (Lt. Colonel): December 12, 1960
Oberst (Colonel): July 26, 1967

I've noticed that too... What's up with that? "nazi" isn't something that should be used, especially as a screen/user name.

I'd think you owe us an explanation, yes indeed...

I, for one, am not very keen to discuss things with people who have extremist views and/or try to promote that kind of ideas... Judging from the number and sometimes the tone of the replies (and even the number of hits on your messages for that matter!) you've had to your earlier questions and to your intro, it seems that many on those Forums share my point of view...

Your screen name is ambiguous and it might be time for you to think about a new name, or a good explanation... I do not know where you are, but in my country, and in my language, 'nazi' is associated with the worst in human nature and behaviour.

Again, judging from the topics and your replies to messages, you do seem to enjoy WWII German stuff, and this, in my eyes does not go towards me wanting to answering your messages... I won't deny it, I do enjoy modeling the odd WWII german subject, but then my screen name is not DJnazi1999, is it..?
