Starcheck,
Tamiya's kits, in general, are, indeed, excellent. Some of the older kits aren't as nice as the modern stuff, but that's simply 'cuz they're products of their time.
The P-51D kit is an excellent kit overall. I mostly prefer it to the Hasegagme Stang, but there's one thing that I really don't like about it.
The canopy is molded in two pieces, the clear bubble and the rail. It's tough to get a great looking join with that type of arrangement, and the sprue attachment point on the clear part demands great care when cutting the part off of the sprue.
If that doesn't bother you, then the Tamiya Stang is for you. It's perhaps one of the easiest kits I've yet made.
The F-15 and the A-10 kits by Tamiya are old kits. I believe they're from the 70's, maybe as late as the early 80's. I'm not too familiar with either, especially the F-15.
If I remember it had raised panel lines and the cockpit didn't have great detail. I could be wrong on both counts, I've only seen the kit once.
The A-10 I've had a few times, never built it though. It had engraved lines but, again
if I recall correctly, it lacked good cockpit detail. I also remember something about that kit representing a non-production aircraft. Something about missing the Pave Penny pod and having the early ejection seat. I don't remember specifically.
Anyhoo, I'm sure both are decent kits, Tamiya has made few dogs over the years, even with the old stuff. I dunno how far you go when building, but if you're into resin and such, there's enuff stuff out there to bring either of these kits up to par with modern day kits. That is if
you find them lacking. It all comes down to personal preference.
