I have built many of aircraft models, and I find that the 1970 Monogram model of the B-25J 1:48 scale would fit your needs quite well. It is a highly detailed kit ready for building. You'll most likely have to get this kit off Ebay, and the price range is from $15 to $21.

The kit # is 5507 made by Monogram. The picture on the box reflects Lady'Lil, with eight .50cal machine guns sticking out the front of the nose.
This model can also be converted to the U.S.Marines PBJ-1 used in W.W.2 in South Pacific operation against the Japanese shipping and land forces. You can get the 1:48 scale red boarder bar&star decales from Squadron.com ., that is if you want to convert your B-25J to a PBJ-1.

Here are some web sites to look for your B-25.

I'll try with the pictures. As for the panel lines, I simply rescribed on the raised lines using a steel rule and an Olfa P cutter, easy, and not too deep, it is a 1/72 model and in that scale they shouldn't be that visible. which probably brings us to the Matchbox kit. If it was anything like their others, it had trenches all over it instead of lines. Gregers, if you really want another one, try a UK firm at ;
modelsforsale.com, they have loads of stock and the prices are good. It might be interesting to compare it with the Italeri B25.

Now there's a coincidence!, On the model table at this very moment, and in the process of building I have two Italeri Mitchell's. The B-25 H/J and the Navy version, the PBJ -1D. Yes, they are going together very nicely, though masking up the canopies and nose glazing is a pain. One big tip, put LOTS of weight in the front, as much as you can squeeze in, there's plenty of space behind the flight deck, even behind the engines, otherwise it will forever sit on it's tail.
I also used sprue to put in a wingspar, there isn't much in the way of strength at the wing joint's. The PBJ is being built, not as a Navy plane, but as a Royal Air Force Transport Command aircraft. They were few in number, but I was inspired by a scene in the film 633 Squadron & I've always wanted to do one. Yes, I know it was actually the camera aircraft used during filming, but the colour scheme looks so good on it, and I didn't want to build just another bomber, that's the reason for the H/J model. And two kits at once isn't proving that difficult either. In case anyone wondered, Mine cost 6 pounds each in the UK, a lot cheaper than that Hasegawa kit!

I have the Italeri kits and they are nice. Hasegawa has a "J" model that is due out soon. I understand the price will be around $40 (U.S.D.). I just think I'll keep my Italeri kits...

I did, a long time ago, the B-25C from Italeri and it is a lovely build. Still has raised panel lines, but other than that, it's a very nice and easy to build model, and WAY better than the Airfix kit!

I agree with "gregers" the choice for now has to be Italeri. Get yourself some true details wheels for it though...it will add a lot to the look of the model. There are also some good photo etch sets out there if want to spend the extra bucks. Hasegawa is going to release their 1/72 scale B-25 this year but it will be about 3 time the price of the Italeri kit!

Who makes the best kit in 1/72 scale.....not so much interested in a particular production version of the bomber but an all around excellent out-of-the-box kit. Then again a great Doolittle B-25B might be a nice project. Thanks....
