i like to take digital pix of my models after i finish them. To make them look a little better, i have made a background that i use...in fact 2 or 3. I had one model, the Sturmovik with skis, so i went to Walmart and got some white batting for snow, and they had some little pine trees in the craft dept. with snow painted on them. I also got a carrier deck section (1:48), and a European landing strip section. I started out using grey sandpaper for the asphalt simulation, and got some model railroad trees to use in the background. I used a light blue cloth for sky background, and some cotton balls in various shapes for clouds. Its kinda fun. And with the use of different lighting, i also can get sunrise or sunset effects.

joem423,

Verlinden has a few neat almost ready-made diorama bases and lotsa accessories.

Here's their website address:

Here's some links to a few of the products that they offer:

They have a bunch more too.

There are also several other manufacturers that produce stuff along those lines. Try searching on Squadron.com for Aircraft accessories. Here's the link:

This should give you a good start.

As for techniques, the FSM forum may be expanding to include a Diorama section. If so, I'm sure there'll be plenty of suggestions there. I'm actually pondering writing some mini-articles to post in the forum for those who may care to look at them, and I've been thinking of doing one on dioramas. We'll see...

Anyone know where you can buy diorama to display a 1/48th aircraft. Something like a runway or flight deck? Or does anyone know a good technique to make one?

Thanks a bunch,
Joe
