Masking Masking Masking. He masked off the windows and canopy and then painted the yellow on. If you look closely at the picture the very thin black line around the inside edge of the yellow is acctually the inside of the window frame, not facing out ward.

I prefer masking either with tape or liquid mask. I would tell you what brand I use but I get my liquid mask from my hobby shop in air brush bottles from one of my friends so I have never seen the bottle it comes in, but the stuff works great. It's light blue in color but dries clear so you can see whats underneath. I can always make a phone call and find out what it is if any one is interested in it.

I used the decal method on the a Monogram F-106 canopy once and it looked pretty good, but getting the curves is very difficult. It takes patience and a lot of decal solvent
I have not yet tried the paint method (either free hand OR "double" masking). I would like to hear from a pro what his favorite method is.

I did the yellow lines on a F-100D canopy, Vietnam camo, and I did it with a very fine brush and cleaned up the goofs using a tooth pick to scrape away the excess.

Not sure how the yellow trim on the canopy was done ... but, I agree ... it sure looks good !!!

Here could be a few possible ways(many other ways of course):
1. Could have masked off the area which will be yellow and free handed it.

2. Used yellow decal sheet(or painted a plain decal sheet yellow) and measured the lines accordingly and cut and applied.

3. By using a mask, masked off the remaining canopy except the part which will be yellow and air brushed it(one of the lesser of the three).

Like I said there could be many other ways he applied the yellow lines around the canopy. This is just a guess but heck for 8am I think it was a good one
