F or TP-51B or C war wary 2 seat variants?
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, June 2, 2003 2:43 AM
I am looking for info on the special 2 seat mustangs that were specifically converted from B and C models. I have a 1/144 scale Revell of Germany P-51B I have stated back in 1995 after a bloke used the same 1/144 kit and scratchbuilt an engine and a complete interior for his twice (one was the kit the other was a cut open demo model), He is my hero!!! I have found a few of the old war weary plane pics and one that is currently being rebuilt. I have the gun bays open on my but the engine is going to remain cowled! I believe the Bloke had his pic taken in an old European Scale Aviation Modeller magazine. folks please help were you can. I have already decided I will have to do all the decals from scratch. Also any references in color are also great but black and white does give me airframes to model after also. I have a copy of the FSM with the 1/48 IKE 2 seat P-51B/C and that really helped too! Thank FSM! Your magazine rocks!

Rosie,

I can help you out with photos of 2-seat Stangs. I'm a bit behind with some other scanning jobs at the moment, but I'll find some good images and get 'em off to 'ya. Shouldn't take too awful long.

4th fighter group in soft cover has a couple of shots of 2 seaters. They are at the end of the war and painted red, in celebration. Sorry, i don't have a scanner or digital cam to make copies.

I may get so drunk, I have to crawl home. But dammit, I'll crawl like a Marine.

Squadron/signal's P-51 Mustang In Action has a brief blurb and a color plate of one. They were all converted by the same unit in the 8th AF(4?? service batallion). Sorry I don't have more.

Jeff Ethell's book Fighter Command has two color shots of the 4th FG's WW P-51 conversion in two different paint schemes. The 56th FG had a two-seater P-47D razorback named "Category E". Plenty of pics of that one as well. Hope it helps- Ed
