Display Mounting?

I've got a couple of 1/144 planes that I'm planning on mounting 'in-flight' for display. I've never mounted anything that didn't come without it's own specially made mount in the box.

So....

In the latest FSM, they showed a product called 'Flexidisplay' adjustable aircraft stand. Anyone ever use it? Would it work for small scales like 1/144 and 1/72?

I'm leaning towards mounting them with wire or brass rod. I considered styrene rod but it seems like that's not strong enough and prone to breaking easily.

Suggestions?
