B-26 Invader Need Help!
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, June 3, 2003 4:07 PM
I want to build a B-26 Invader from the 13th Bomb Squadron (The Devil's Own Grim Reapers) during the Korean War. These aircraft were black with red trim and had some great nose art. I am having a hard time finding kits and decals. Any help would be great. Thanks!

I have a Revell B-26 that I'd be willing to part with. I don't have the kit number off the top of my head. The kit may actually still be "in the shrink wrap too? Send me an e-mail. We can talk about price and I'll find the kit number.

I recommend Mike Grant Decals if you want to model a specific aircraft that is not available commercially. His website is: www.mikegrantdesign.com/decals He can create decals from photographs or your art work. He did a fantastic job on the decals for my uncle's B-24, "The Chambermaid".

The kit I have is by Monogram. The kit number is 5508 = A/B-26C Invader. It's a 1995 issue and still in the shrink wrap.

Let me know if you are interested.

RADRMRK,

There are 2 kits that you could use, or I should say two versions of one kit that you could use.

Monogram's original issue of the kit was for the glass-nosed A/B-26C kit #5508. This one's going to be re-released in about a month or so.

Then Monogram released the gun-nosed A-26B, kit #5920 under the ProModeler label. This one is somewhat hard to find nowadays, but I think it was also released by Revell of Germany.

The latter kit would be my choice as the 13th BS had a large number of "B" variants, and there are three specific gun-nosed aircraft that I'd personally like to build. Coincidentally, all three of these aircraft are available on decal sheets.

Aeromaster #48-101 "Oscar's Invaders" has markings for "The 7th Chadwick". Unfortunately, this sheet is out of production. You may still be able to find one here or there. A good place to start looking would be Squadron.com: http://squadron.com/

Albatros #48014 "Naughty Invaders" has markings for two 13th BS aircraft: "The 6th Chadwick" and "Versatile Lady". (I don't know if this sheet has been released yet. Here's a link to a sneak preview: http://decals.prohosting.com/decals/naughtyinvadersdecalreviewbg_1.htm )

This last aircraft, "Versatile Lady" is high on my priority build list. I am a great fan of nose art and this one is pretty nice. Not as nice as others, but very appealing all the same. I've included some shots of 13th BS aircraft below for a bit of inspiration!

This shot shows the unit's insignia to advantage.

Silver bird!

A glass-nosed B-26C.

"The 7th Chadwick" before application of nose art. Note the masking lines and overspray of red onto the black engine cowling.

"The 7th Chadwick" after the addition of nose art and much use.

"Versatile Lady", someday I'll build this one.

Hope these are of use!

LOL, it's a '49 Ford Convertible. AMT makes a kit of a '49 Ford, I think. Or is it a Merc... Tongue [:P]
