Slime lights...
Posted by mostlyjets on Wednesday, June 4, 2003 5:07 PM
Having never been a fan of decal slime lights, I tought about painting them in. I don't know if anyone makes that color, but my idea was to use a glow in the dark paint. I had seen some in a fishing catalog, so I knew it would be waterproof but have not seen it since. Yesterday I found a water based gel paint made for fabrics by Plaid at Wal-Mart so I gave that a try. It went on goopy in it's natural state and brushed easy enough. I'll try thinning with water on another application. I was using an old snap-together kit from my son's ceiling collection. Results were mixed, as I was painting over the gray of the model. I'm thinking a white base coat first will work best. The raised panel lines were a plus to the application because they held the paint where I needed it. Color wise, they are a little too yellow-y for actual slime lights, but for this plane, it was just cool to see them "flying" with their form lights on!

That's a cool idea...

I've seen several different colors of glow in the dark paints, maybe a mixture of two or more will yield the desired color.

CAM Decals makes modern US aircraft decals that come with the glow strip lights. THe decals are Excellent and really do glow in the dark, but shine really brightly under a black light.
They are available from BrookHurst hobbies.
