I think you will find that it is the ESCI Backfire re- boxed.
Quite a lot of it going on at the moment.
I recently purchased the Revell Victor - the Matchbox kit re-boxed.
A terrible kit but a must have for any RAF enthusiast.
Most of the Airfix new releases in 1/48 scale are Arii / Otaki moulds
which is generally better than the Airfix offerings.
Worst case scenario - the SM79 is the Airfix kit re - boxed!

Well, you' can always step up to a REAL scale Big Smile [:D] and get either the Trumpeter or the Classic Airframes SM-79 in 1/48.

Anybody know anything about the Backfire kit? If it's the Backfire-C I'm hoping that will retool a little and correct some of ESCI's mistakes...

Good God man, don't tell me things like that. I've been waiting patiently for that SM79. Now I'll be waking up in the middle of the night, like that Huskerguy fellow!!!

and something to shoot at?"

According to my local Hobby Retailer, the SM79 is cancelled and nearly the entire Italeri line of 1/72 aircraft has been discontinued. Hope it's not true, but he showed me the notice from the distributor.

Hannants website list this kit as Future Release and already have a price (£9.99) so I'd expect it to be around very shortly! Goody!

What is happening with this kit?
According to Italeri, it should have been here over a year ago.
Any body have an idea to when it will be avaiable, if ever?
