One technique I use is to spray whatever color (in this case gloss orange/red) as I normally would. Then I put a bit of thinner into the cup, mix it up, and spray fairly lightly over the entire model (or appropriate areas). I keep doing this until there is WAY more thinner in the cup than paint. Each successive application is lighter and lighter in coverage to avoid running.
By spraying in this manner, all that thinner serves to smooth out the paint already on the model and it leaves a nice glossy finish. Be warned, though. The paint shrinks as it drys, and you may have a gorgeous shine at first only to come back in a couple of days and discover that it's been knocked back a bit.
If you want SUPER gloss, then you can use clears and polishes and buffing materials and all that if you want. But I almost never have to do any of that, I'm usually satisfied with the initial results.
