Has anyone built the 1/72 Monogram F-4J?

All,

I'm working on the 1/72 Monogram F-4J, and things are going very well. This is the second kit I've worked on since getting back into the hobby, but the first one where I've really paid attention to getting the fit right, gluing seams carefully, filling gaps, etc.

I've come to the part where I put the intakes on the plane. The fit is a little strange there, and I'm wondering if anyone else has built this model and how that part of the assembly was dealt with.

Regards,

I built this a long time ago- It is similar (if not the same) in parts breakdown as their 1/48th kit. It's all good, a nice kit that can be built into a nice model. It is by no means perfect or as superior as more recent Hasegawa kits of the F-4.

You should enjoy it.

Hi Toad,

Yes, it is building into a nice model. The intake area is really requiring a lot of forethought. I figured out how to handle the gap I mentioned in my first post. But the way the parts break down, I'm not sure how to handle the painting.

What I'm thinking of doing is painting the inside of the intakes, the splitter plate, and the area behind the splitter plate in the proper colors. Then, I'll glue everything on, mask off the inside of the intakes and the splitter plates and paint the rest of the fuselage and wings.

This is a rather tricky assembly compared to other models I've built in the past. Still, I'm really happy with the way things are turning out.

Regards,
