I never flew in the F-4J, but I have had back seat flights in the F-4D and F-4E. It was fun and I really enjoyed it. I can say I have been up to Mach 1.8 and over 50,000 feet. The world sure looks different from that high up.

I was a day late and a few MPC's short! We were flying some UH-1's from Chu Lai to Pleiku and had to RON at Phu Cat AFB. There was a F-4 Unit standing down and going back to the States. We gave the AF Phantom jocks some stick time in our Hueys and the thing they were amazed about the most was all the raidoes we had! They only had one! And the fact they could see leaves on the trees a a mere 90 kts airspeed. They said they would have given us rides in the F-4s if we had been a day earlier. They were in the process of hanging 5 drop tanks on all the birds for the trip home to the States. They let us climb all over them, but it sure would have been something to ride in a Phantom!
