Posted by Anonymous on Friday, June 20, 2003 9:17 AM
I have just found the Panda Model catalogue site-
http://www.pandamodels.com/
Are these guys for real?
1/35 scale CH47's, 1/72 scale C17's as well as a brace of
Tu22's and a TU160
All I wanted was a 1/144 AC130!
At this rate i'm going to need to buy Base Hangar at Brize!Big Smile [:D]

Oggy,

Yup, they apparently are real! Over on the Helo forum we're all pretty anxious to get our hands on the 35th scale CH-47. Gonna be on heck of a model! As for the rest, it certainly sounds ambitious!

I admire their ambition, I just wonder how many people plan on getting more than one or two of their giant kits. I plan on getting the 1/32 B-17G, if I can afford it. But I worry that a company which only sells a kit or two to each of its customers will soon be gone.

I think that the labour and tooling costs in that part of the world are minimal ,as well as the lack of environmental lobby groups mean that development costs for
Chinese companies mean that their profit/loss margins are a lot different than even the Korean or Japanese can manage.
Also their raw materials cost almost nothing - a few cents worth of polystyrene
They have obviously read the FSM 'most wanted kit' polls.
Between Panda and Trumpeter they will corner the market in kits with the highest Drool Factor!
Keep em coming!

There's a guy in my club who'll get at least two of the 32nd Forts, guaranteed. But that's because they only let him out on the weekends. (He's considering a THIRD Academy 32nd F/A-18!!Evil [}:)])

Anyhoo, that's just one guy. Hopefully, for Panda's sake, there are more wackos out there like my pal. I think there are enuff folks who'll buy at least one 32nd B-17 to justify releasing the kit. If I was really into braille scale and had the dough to to$$ away I'd probably get one. So long as it's a decent kit, that is.

BTW, Panda is actually Chinese for "REALLY brave model kit manufacturer". Tongue [:P] We'll see how it goes...

Heard a rumor that Kathy Lee Gifford's sweat-shop will be pressed into service as a Panda B-17 facility. Any validity?
