Woo Hoo! I won!!
Posted by Jeeves on Tuesday, June 24, 2003 1:00 AM
I entered an ebay auction for Tamiya's 1:48 scale Lancaster bomber (the Grand Slam Lanc) and put up $50 thinking I would easily lose.....turns out I won it at $49!! Not bad for a $120 and some change kit :)

Now I just need to find space to build her :)

P.S. I have a lot of video documention about lanc's and i'm wondering if it's modeled after one of the planes from 622 squadron from gb circa 1944 . also in the movie stripper in canada the girls stop in a small town in canada and on display
is a lanc called ye old owl if memory serves me right .

There was a story going around a couple weeks back about a local Hobby Lobby in Georgia or somewhere down south that mis-marked the Hornets for... was it $40 or $50? I don't recall, exactly. In all probablility it could have been a line someone was casting for us, but if it was true... some lucky bastige...

Some folks have all the luck.LoL i was looking at the same kit in the local hobby shop the other day, the only thing that stopped me buying was the missus was with me and the threat she gave!!! cowardice prevailed. LoL..Greg

Good find, I have both types of Tamiya lancs, 2 standard and 1 dambuster, I won't tell you the price I won them for, but it wasn't 120 bucks either.

Black wolf guess I don't feel bad now about having my Dam Buster for 2 without starting it.

JEEVES...great deal. I buy lots of my stuff on ebay. If you watch it you can usually get a super price. I recently got the old Monagram B-52D with operating flaps etc. and "real engine sound". I got it for $40. Usually goes for over $100. It was an original factory sealed box. (including glue). & no I haven't built this one yet either is on my list about 10 down or so.

The grand slam is beautiful, but hen I'm a Bomber freak.

Awesome-- just got it today!!! Well-- one interesting thing just looking it over-- there are normal plain clear parts, and there are also pre-painted clear parts available to use....now the question is can I live with myself for using the pre-painted ones ;)

Congrats, I bought my Dambuster 10 yrs ago in a Ct hobbyshop in Clinton. (Wings & Wheels?) Paid $50.00 for it back then, original boxing. I just now started to build it.

Taking my time. Minor detail update in using PE seatbelts
and EZ masks for the canopy.

<img src=http://hyperphoto.photoloft.com/view/exportImage.asp?s=cano&i=10808892&w=600&h=450>

And True Details main wheels. Only trouble spot IMHO is the engine nacelles a bit of work on the gaps.

Watch out for the rubber band that Tamiya has around the fuselage in the kit. Mine was melted around the nose and left a little welt. It took some sanding to remove it. You may see a faint line in the image.
Enjoy the kit, it is impressive in the box.

some people are at the right place & at right time, I've had the honor to build one a few years ago, not bad for a kit produced before the Monogram B-17, the problem I had was to put the crew in the bomber for a client, who bought & paid for assembly his way, but the interior was nice but needs some newer upgrades for todays standards but still a great buy for $49, and I'm still looking for a few for my collection, have fun with the lucky buy from e-bay
