Thanks for your responses guys but I'm all set. Davidwaples sent me the parts I needed a week after this post.

I finished the model back in Feb.. As far as fit problems go, I did not have a single one. I would not build the same kit with the wings again though. There is not much supporting the wings. It will not take much to snap one of those suckers right off. But It does look quite nice when done.

I have built all three of the F4U versions released by Tamiya and never experienced a fit problem with the left wing or anywhere else for that matter. The kit is really designed for the wings to be folded and does require extra care for building in the extended position. Also the air intake inserts on both wings require care and may need a spot of filler. If fireinsignia had a "drastical" fit problem on the left wing, it was either a very rare molding problem or an error somewhere in construction. Tamiya kits are very well engineered and precisely molded, but if you make an error anywhere along the way it can really cause major problems down the road. Sorry Darren, I built all of mine with wings extended, but I scrapped the parts you need.

Whaz up Fireinsignia,
Is there a fit problem w/ the left wing??. I'm just dry fitting the wings now and they seem fine so far.
Did you see this problem when you were dry fitting the left wing or after you started to do the gluing. Also is the fit problem on the top or the bottom of the wing?
Or do you think it may have been a possibility of a bad mold. Like I said so far so good w/ the fit.
Who knows but the Shadow do...Tongue [:P]

If you would listen to everybody about the inaccuracies, most of the kits on your shelf would not have been built Too Close For Guns, Switching To Finger

in case youre still checking on this post, you should know that the left wing on the Tamiya 4FU has a serious fit problem. I decided not to correct this on mine, as it was one of my first kits and changes were too drastical.

I have three of the kits in my basement. I think I can spare a set for you. Give me an address and I'll get it in the mail to you.

Hello all,
I need a little help please. If you built Tamiya's 1/48 scale F4U-1D with the wings extended you may be able to help. While test fitting the wings I broke the left wing attachment part A9. This piece is used to position the wings in the folded configuration. If someone has this part in their spares box and would be willing to part with it please email me. Otherwise I will have to try and fix it, this will not be much fun.

Thanks,

Darren
