Thanks RadMax !

No, there's no problem letting it go. The client sent me the kit, Eduard PE, and vac canopy. I never thought of it as mine, it's always been his.

Thanks again !

nice build pix, as always. Do you have a hard time letting go of kits you build, or does the $$$ make up for it?Big Smile [:D]

Thanks Bryan and Fred !

I feel that it's one of Hasegawa's better kits, and the Eduard PE adds a lot (even if you just use those gunsights !).

Thanks again !

Thanks carsanab and Darren !

carsanab - I posted a link to the build article on my website (with unfinished text Blush [:I] ) right under the photos. Maybe you were too busy looking at the pics to see it, so here it is again:

Darren - he's received the finished pics, and waiting to receive it. He seems very happy (as am I).

Thanks again !

Great looking bird...congrats on a clean crisp build, the cockpit looks real good. I can get a peak at the engine which also looks like it has a bit of work put into it. would love to see more of it.

Congrats.

Thanks Martin, Tom, Brian, Lee, and Thad !

Lee - another good point about it is saving shelf space. I get to build them (which is fun), and I don't have to clear any room for them. It's great.

Thad - here's a link to about 3000 pics of Japanese aircraft taken during the war. The pics show that the paint chipped no more than other aircraft. Not many have exhaust stains, and powder burns from guns is almost non-existant. Pics of real aircraft are the only source to use if you want it to be authentic or realistic.

(plenty of Luftwaffe pics, along with some Russian, Italian, and French birds)

Nice one, Pix -
Congrats on the commission - it's great, isn't it?
I've been building on a commission basis for years - and you're right - it's not hard to part with the models once they're done -
But the wierdest thing is actually getting PAID to do a hobby - always makes me laugh.
Keep up the good work, mate.

Cheers, LeeTree

Thanks Matthew, Mark, Gumiflex, Steve, Simon, and Joe !

Matthew - the Kate was also manufactured by Nakajima, and the same cockpit color was used. I have the mixing formula on my build page. The only out-of-bottle color is made by White Ensign Models.

Mark - I've known since before I got the kit that I wouldn't be keeping it. I never saw it as mine, so there's no sadness in parting with it.

Simon - he can say anything he wishes, as long as I get paid. Wink [;)]

Joe - you snuck in on me while I was typing my reply (it takes me a while with one finger and lots of corrections !) Blush [:I]

Here's a shot of the actual aircraft in flight. You can see that all Japanese aircraft were not chipped like crazy (in fact, very few were).

The layering on the canopy is phenomenol, as is the whole model. This is modelling as an art form and no doubt will become the prize possession of your client. I can just hear him/her telling to friends "Yeah you know my good friend Pixilater built this for me!"

As always, an absolutely beautiful build, Bill! I'm happy to hear you are getting paid for what you love to do (if only all of us could be so lucky!); still, it must be a bittersweet feeling knowing you are parting with something you invested so much time and effort into.

fantastic. I'm building the B5N2 Kate for the Pearl Harbor GB this year and I'm using some of your techniques for this kit. I'm going to try the transparent metallic blue wheel wells, so I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks for the great ideas.

Thank you very much Filibert, Jason, Nick, Mike, Rick, mucker, and Jerry !

Filibert - real Japanese aircraft didn't lose their paint to the extent exhibited on so many models. Those that DID chip, did so because the aircraft received no primer. This is evident on many G4M "Bettys," and some IJA aircraft stationed in China that had unpainted metal lower surfaces. I have a pic of this particular aircraft in flight, and the only "weathering" visible is a little scuffing at the wingroot. I guess that a lot of modelers like the look of chipped paint on a Japanese aircraft, but it's mostly inaccurate and very often overdone.

mucker - Nakajima is still in business, in a way. They just call themselves Fuji now.

Thanks again !

PIx. yet another masterpiece! I'm sure your CD will be an added bonus, but your work speaks VOLUMES for itself. If you want one more realistic, you'll have to contact Nakajima.
Thanks for the pics and the link
