Haven't built the Ocidental kit yet, but it looks good. In some ways it's very similar to the Monogram kit and one sometimes wonders if it's not, at least in part, a bit of reverse engineering on the part of Ocidental.

The 'ole Monogram kit is, indeed, excellent. Built that one as a progressing junior modeler and it was a dream to build; gorgeous kit, even by today's standards. The only thing about this kit which I don't like is the raised lines.

Other than that, if I had a choice to buy an Ocidental or a Monogram Texan, I'd go for the Monogram kit in a flash. Even at retail, it'd be cheaper, it's a bit more accurate and, in some respects, a bit nicer.

i have never seen a 1/32 Texan kit. www.greatmodels.com has no reference to any 1/32 Texan kits or goodies, so i would guess not.

Occidental Replicas made a 1/48 Texan kit
there is a made model on today's (July 2) page on
www.aircraftresourcecenter.com. it is a good looking model, but i can't tell you if it is 'better' than the Monogram.
the direct link is:
http://www.aircraftresourcecenter.com/Gal2/1401-1500/Gal1463_T-6_Brito/gal1463.htm

according to www.greatmodels.com, Modelcraft Canada made a 1/48 Texan, but it is now OOP.

a build i saw online (from an Australian modeler) said:
"The Revell reissue of the old Monogram AT-6 the kit is cheap, does show signs of age, but is probably one of the most accurate and detailed Monogram ever produced. It is moulded in bright yellow plastic with little flash. It does though have raised panel lines and surface details, including rivets. Built straight from the box a very acceptable finish can be achieved, but I decided to make some improvements."

he then goes on to sand off all the detail and rescribe. :-)
my Mongram Texans are silver/grey plastic, not yellow.
but it is likely the same kit.

this is a good site for finding info on kits and some galleries, but i did not see too much on the Texan.

good luck,

There's no 1/32 scale T6 that I know of. A company called Occidantal makes a 1/48 scale kit, but I honestly don't know how good it is. Considering its age the Monogram is still very nice.
