transparent decals
Posted by dubix88 on Sunday, July 6, 2003 6:11 PM
HEY,
I am now almost finished with a F-18 Blue Angels Fighter. I was so excited when i was putting the decals on but there was a problem. The decals are yellow and you have to put it on a dark blue background. When you put it on it looks like you can kinda see the blue underneath.Disapprove [V] Do you know how to prevent this?

Randy,
There are really only three ways of preventing this -

1. Buy another set of decals (contact the kit manufacturer) and lay one set over the other once the first has dried. This will effectively increase the opacity of the decals and reduce or eliminate the "see through" effect of the transparent decals.

2. Paint the areas where you will place the decals white before you place the decals (very hard to do in some cases, but in others, very easy). You'll end up with bright vibrant colors.

3. Mask and paint the markings directly onto the aircraft. Again, sometimes very hard to do.

Those are the only fixes I can think of............

........and in the situation of it being in Blue Angels livery, LeeTree's #1 option is really the only viable one here.
Masking off the wing and stabilizer tips wouldn't be an issue, but as for the rest of it.......do yourself a favor and get another set of decals.Smile [:)]
