Inside the Corsair cowl

Hello everyone! I'm working on the Pro-Modeler F4U-5N currently and was wondering what color the inside of the cowl was. I checked in my Detail & Scale book but it didn't really say. They have a great color picture showing the inner cowl colors on an F4U-4 but I don't know if the same scheme was used on the -5N night fighter. Does anyone have some advice?

I believe the color was interior green. I will double check and get an F.S. and Model Master # for it.

I've been to that museum, my dad lives near there. It is great, all their planes are flying models and on any given day, they might be flying any one of them.

The light gray on the inside of Lone Star's cowel isn't authentic. also note that the landing gear wells and doors are painted white on the inside when on original 1950's Corsairs they were the same glossy sea blue as the rest of the aircraft. The gray cowel and landing gear is to improve visibility, making it easier to spot leaks and spot problems.

i saw one at a airshow and it was an off-white kinda color.

I think that's the problem with restored models, they're not bound by military specs like the guys at the time were. They can also paint anything just about any color they want, just because they think it looks good. While I'd like that kinda freedom with my own plane (if I had one) it doesn't do much for you if you're trying to reproduce a period bird.
