Has any model mag done an article on how to convert the Airfix Herron into a Dove ? anyone done this ? is it possable? am i mental for thinking it is possable Tongue [:P] (probably) Cheers in advance....Greg Big Smile [:D]

i bought the DH Herron form airfix but im sorry i dont know anyone who has done the conversion to a dove sorry!

Hi Duckman Thanks for your reply i am sure that this one is possable so i am going down to the Newark air museum as they have both types on display i reckon a few good photos ta the same distance and angles should at least help me decide which way to go...thanks....Greg

I'm sure Airfix Mag did an article on this in the late '60s. Alan Hall - the then editor- was well known for his conversions, usually with balsa wood & dope.

Im sorry but I think that the conversion of the DH114 back to the DH104 could not be done. Why? As far as I can remember,I'm going back to 1974/76 when I worked in Alice Springs as an Air Radio Officer, Connair opperated 114s and the Northern Terretory Aero Medical Service used 104s I used to see them parked together regularly and while the Herron was an upsised Dove there were considerable differences. Wing Platform size of the tail units length and size of the fuselarge. I flew in both aircraft both in the righthand seat and in the back with the geese. I have some books on both aircraft and will check dimentsions etc and will let you know further.

Hi Folks and thanks for all the info as ar as shortening the fuselage goes looking at the two a/c they seem to have the same cross section so that should be do'able i have done a similar conv job on a DC9 from a series 30 to a 10 and that included cropping the wings too. many thanks....Greg

Why not try the Rareplanes vacform Dove ? It's still available from Hannants, I think.
As far as I recall both fuselages are different, it is not simply a matter of shortening one to produce the other.

Cheers Steverog i had forgot about the vacform. i will still look into the conversion first though as i have allready bought the Herron. if it can't be done i will get the vacform and build the Herron as a Royal Navy "admirals barge" aircraft that i photographed at an airshow about 15-20 years ago.
