That's the only thing keeping me from building another one of these things. Overall, it's the better of the two kits (Tamiya & Hasegawa) and the fix on the sprue attachment point is most welcome, but the parts are still WAY too thick. And I ain't a vac kinda guy... Sad [:(]

Just got back from the hobby shop Butz and I now have the Tamiya #61089 P-51 Mustang in my car! I'll have to check it out when I get home. (You know, it can be a dangerous thing $$$$$ to work 3 miles from your favorite hobby shop. Tongue [:P] )

Hey Rebel,
Its TRUE...!!!!!!! Can you believe it. I purchased two of these beauties yesterday!!.
I have a few of the other 51's #61040 that have the bad canopy attachments(actually on the glass itself) and made a comparison w/ the new one and yup its definetly revised.
Overall its the same ol Tamiya Mustang mold w/ a few add ons like I described in my first post.
Hey maybe somethings are too good to mention know what I mean VernTongue [:P]

There's a revised Tamiya P-51!?![:0] The Tamiya reps. made no mention of it at the I.P.M.S. nats. last week. If it's true it sure sounds cool!

Your welcome erush!!
As for the best P-38? ,thats a tough one. I have both the Hasegawa and Hobbycraft kits in 48th.
Over all they are beautifully done!! As for inaccuracies? I have not build these two kits in a while so I really could not tell you.
To me these kits both look good scale wise(I think the Hobbycraft 38 is more to true scale) but I caution you on when you assemble the booms. Be patient w/ them!!
Yes there are two thing that I dont like about the Hobbycraft 38 For one, the tires are made of rubber and two, the interior is kinda plain Jane(thats ok though, True Details makes an interior set #48455).
Basically erush that choice is up to you. If you feel more comfortable w/ the Hasegawa kit so be it and if not you have the other mfg.
If you listened to everybody when it came down to inaccuracies, I'm sure half the kits on your shelf would not be built!!Tongue [:P]Tongue [:P]
Enjoy your P-51Big Smile [:D]

Thanks for the info Butz. I want to get a P-51 and a P-38 to go with my P-47 and I was wondering what to get on them. I'll pick up the P-51 next chance I get. Any suggestions on the best P-38 out there? I mostly build jets so I'm not up on the WWII kits much. Oh and I'm looking for 1/48th too.

Tamiyas Release of the P-51D #61089 somin new?

Whaz up,
I just picked up the so called "New" P-51 by Tamiya($30).
The first thing that I wanted to check out was the canopy and to my surprise they revised it!!!
The attachments are now located at the base of the glass instead of at the sides.
For those of you like myself who have built the P-51(#61040) know what a bear it was to clean up the glass to hide the imperfections left from the attachment pointsAngry [:(!]
Either Tamiya had a few complaints or Tamiya themselves realized the flaw in the canopy but they fixed it YAHOO!!
In addition to the canopy they also give you two firgures, one seated pilot looking off to the left and resting his arm on the side rails(must have lost weight) and one standing pilot. One other thing that I noticed is that kit includes the 108 gal paper drop tanks.
The decals that are supplied w/ the kit include two a/c from the 357thFG (Yeager and Anderson) and one from the 78thFG, Landers bird "Big Beautiful Doll"
In all I am sure that this will make a lot of people happy when it comes time to build an already awesome kit.......right BlackwolfTongue [:P]
