buffing metallic metalizers???
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, July 14, 2003 8:29 PM
im getting ready to do a Mig-15 and im deciding to use testors buffing aluminum plate metalizer. I was wondering if it was the best solution or if an alternative like foil should be used. When the metallic plate is used, what is the best material and method to buff the metalizer with. I have not used the product before or the method in using it. if anyone can help me id be real appreciative. thanks

I don't know about being the best solution CTrill. The best will be whatever you decide you like really. Everyone has their own preference there.
As for buffing the metalizer, use a soft cotton rag (old t-shirt, handkerchief etc.) and you can use a q-tip for tight areas. Just be very gentle when buffing or you'll buff right through it. I'd reccommend a couple or three coats of paint before buffing. And I'd skip some panels to give it the apperence that some weather different or have been replaced.
Good luck on it!

here's my method..
before applying metalizers, prime the models first...find for scrach mark....make sure they're all gone....even the smallest scratch will show with metalizers... so fill, sand , prime... then u need to polish the models ..there're lots of polishing compound available in the market......i used Autosol Plastic Polish...polish the model and then let it set... sometimes i coat it with a heavy coat of clear gloss.. (future will work too) ...prime the models again and look for scratch mark and other imperfection... repeat the above steps... when u're satisfy..then paint the models with metallizers...
u need to seal it after buffing....i use gunze sangyo clear gloss.... that's about my method...glad i could help

Yeah, buff it before you seal it.
Becareful of the testors metallizers, especially when masking, since the are fragile.
SnJ makes the better (the best IMHO) metallizer and can buff very nicely with thier powder - just a bit messy tho.

That's generally what I do, then I'll lightly tint areas with the testors metallizer
3d modelling is an option a true mental excercise in frusrtation
