                        You might as well go and get the Eduard kit, you may be waiting a Loooong time for the 32nd scale kit. I'm still waiting for the P-61's too which were announced a couple of years ago now.

                        Hey Everybody!
                        This thread has been great! I have been thinking about getting a Eduard P-39, but I also have my sights set on the upcoming AM Tech 1/32 P-39F(I wonder if they are going to release a P-39Q). I haave liked the P-39 for years, since I built the Monogram kit. It is even cooler, because I got to meet a WASP who acutally flew a P-39, and did things in it that the manual said the plane was not designed for. It just increases my interest of the aircraft even more. Would it be alright to get in touch with you guys to get info on the P-39?

                        I got the Eduoard kit yesterday, and everything everyone said about it is true...it is going together very nicely. I guess i didnt get the masks burnished enuf on the canopy and doors, cuz i did get some bleeding, but with a wet toothpick, was able to do a repair job. Going to put first coat of OD on tomorrow...would you guys wait until the painting is finished before installing the landing gear? Dang, i wish they would make those struts of metal, and a better way to attach them to these models.

                        It was My cousin Ivan Sterlacci. He was disenchanted with facism and Mussolini so he boarded a bus and went to Russia. I have some autographed pictures from him. After the war he moved to the US and had so many children that I now have cousins in EVERY Active, Guard and Reserve flying squadron that ever existed. That helps me now in my model building because no matter what the markings are, I have a cousin who flew that bird.

                        Eduard's come a LONG way since their limited run limited quality days. The P-39 rivals a Hasegawa kit for quality.

                        Cool beans, so how is it using the soft masks??? Is there a certain brand name that you use or not?
                        I myself use "non poruse" surgical tape(it has a lil flexability to it as well). It has enough of a stick to lay down and it comes back up w/out any problems.
                        So I see what you mean by sticking to the same method.

                        I built the p-39 kit. I don't have enough good things to say about it. The profi-paks are just wonderful. I finished mine as a p-400 in North Africa (I have the p-39Q waiting - just need to find info on the Q named "Brooklyn").

                        Anyways, my only issue with the kit was the canopy masks that where provided. They did not like to stick to the compound curves of the canopy. I ended up using those parts as templates to cut out a section of the 3M masking material (forget what it is called). Here are some picts





                        It's a really good kit, enjoy it.

                        Yeah, it wasn't around too long. I had it at Noreastcon but it was gone by Saturday. It was given to Ilya's friend who did the speech on the P-39. It actually turned out pretty good. I was done in Russian markings which was a first for me, which is odd seeing how my cousin flew P-39s in Russia. Smile [:)]Smile [:)]Smile [:)]

                        I built this kit soob and it went together quite well. The only problems I encountered were the windscreen/rear window seemed a bit to narrow for the fuselage and some of the small parts were pretty tricky. Namely the gun vents on the side of the nose and the nose gear small forward gear. I had to remove locator pins to get them to fit where they should go. The only other thing I will do on the next one is to thin the wings some by sanding. The trailing edge was too thick and the leading edge looked to flat. Maybe it was just the one I built and I didn't like the way it looked, although noone else seemed to notice.

                        there is a lot of info of p-39's in Russian service on this website: http://www.kithobbyist.com/VVS/
                        There are some kit reviews, model pics, and detail drawings of the different versions as well as paint schemes. If i remember correctly there is a review of the Eduard kit. Gotta love them Airacobras and Kingcobras in ussr/ made in usa!

                        I have a few variants of the Eduard 39s. I have not built one yet but by the looks, they are nicely done.
                        Depending on the kit, they supply you w/ 3 to 4 different markings. The decals dont look to bad considering that they are kit decals.
                        I also have a Profi pack which is very nice. it contains mostly photo etchedSad [:(] but I really like the instrument panel and its set up.
                        I would not worry because the new releases are a lot better than the earlier ones.
