1. THE POINT......... I always have dreamt to become a Air Force Pilot.......... But lost the opportunity to do so........ thats because of several requirement s such as Age limit, height, weight, health (especially eye sight)....

So if can't FLY'em might settle for the next thing just BUILD'em and collect.

2. Keeps the brain thinking of ways to build kits with many faults and errors. A healthy brain is a fast thinking and patient mind. So I practice by modelling.

3. Models I dont like get to be sold to friends in the police and military, who knows nil about modeling. The profits goes around to re-build the kit or start on a new project with practice.

That's my points in modelling.

The point?

The point of my aircraft models is to save me a trip to the Air Force Museum in Dayton every time I want to see historical aircraft. Big Smile [:D] There's also the fact that they're handy from an educational point of view: my son's opportunities to learn don't end when he leaves school.

The point of my Sci-Fi collection used to be practicing in my spare time for a "dream job" at ILM. Now that digital models for SF have taken over, it's just fun.

As for the only ship I've finished, the point of that was to get my son to stop bugging me about having a Titanic. He was fixated on the subject about a year ago and insisted I buy the kit.

Overall, I just like building something tangible. That's something we don't get much chance for in "real life." Even if the model is something from a Japanese animated show, there's a difference inside when a modeler says, "I built this" as opposed to "I bought this collectible."

The point?

I'd like to think all modellers are artists, trying to capture life in all its splendor in miniature form. Modellers are historians, eagerly acquiring knowledge about every subject they put their hands on and following through on recent events. Modellers are great builders, putting in time, money and sheer effort into a project that will culminate into a legacy of pride and enjoyment.

What''s the point?
Building kits of the planes my dad flew and crewed in
building kits of the vehicles my uncles rolled through Europe and the Pacific in during WWII.
Building kits of the a/c and vehicles I rode in during the Southeast Asian International War Games.
Building kits of the planes I have seen fly over my house every day of my life

Tornado,
What's the Point?
Building history that I read about.
The chance to build aircraft that I had
as a child . ( Hopefully better this time!)
Because I enjoy building and the finished kit.
To learn and improve my skills.
To have fun.
Great question . It's a good reminder of why I'm
in the hobby(ies) .Thanks Tornado ! Big Smile [:D]

Stinger, I concur with the "vicariously live dreams". I still "fly" models through the house looking along the longitudinal axis, not only because it feels like you're flying, but because of all the gunsight footage shown throughout the years on History Channel, etc. and because it gives a "realistic" view I'll never see of various aircraft at various attitudes...and I still think it's fun and cool too! The hobby also gives you the power of "What if". Great thread Tornado! Oh, along the lines of perpetuating the tradition...how about instilling the tradition in you children.
All out of Snakes and Nape, switching to guns...

Tornado, you hit on a good one here!
What's the point?

To escape reality.
To vicariously live dreams.
To relive our youth, or memorable moments.
To hold in your hand something that you may never get any closer to (where's my model of Madonna?)
To create something with your own hands
and give it your own personality
and so much more.....
who's next?.....
Thanks for the topic - Stinger

To have some fun?

To build your very own Aircraft/Spacecraft/AFV/Ship/Auto/Busty Amazon Warrior collection? (With apologies to the recent issue of UK IPMS Magazine!)

To capture a moment in history?

To perpetuate the time honoured tradition of modelmaking?

To take pleasure from an accurate, one off item that you have fashioned with your own hands?
