Thanks very much for the replies...sorry I did not get back for a couple days due to my job and honey-do list. I usually model 1/72 and 1/48th but when I was (quite!) younger had the Revell 1/32nd Wildcat and would like to do another one...ooh well, back to E-Bay!

The F4F-4 is still available here in the UK. There are some BIG problems with the engine cowling and the location of the canopy, requiring some major surgery. A few other bits need attention too...

Steve over at Scale Hobby just posted some info about upcoming braille scale releases by Trumpeter, including the revamped Wildcat. I guess he's expecting them in October. This is the first I've heard about the re-release of this kit...

the last i heard, and this was a while back, so the details are now fuzzier than ever, went like this:
there were some inaccuracies w/ the kit.
if you search this forum, you will find discussions on the kit from Feb & March.
the key points are summarized here (stolen from Blackwolf's old post)
review:
http://kits.prohosting.com/f4f432previewbg_1.htm
statement by importer:
http://kits.prohosting.com/f4fstatement_1.htm

meanwhile WAY down on the bottom of
http://www.squadron.com/New.htm
was the following text (copied w/o permission for the convenience of any who might want to read it here w/o scrolling down)
"Trumpeter F4F-4 Wildcat Notice
We have been informed by Trumpeter that they have not recalled the 1/32 scale F4F-4 Wildcat. It will continue to be sold, in all its glory, in markets other than the U.S.

MMD-Squadron has cancelled its order with the U.S. distributor. MMD-Squadron will not sell the uncorrected kit and we will not accept returns.
MMD-Squadron will support and sell Trumpeter kits, but we will not do a pre-sell on the Wildcat. We will only sell it after we have seen whatever revisions have been made.

Webmaster"

so it would seem that the kit continues to be unavailable in the US.
perhaps making off shore model sites or ebay the only outlets to the US customer?

so i guess this has been a long winded version of:
no, i have not heard anything lately either.
it sounds like there is no modification, and no 're-release'.
and no kit for sale in US.

ed.

i have heard nothing since then, nor have i seen the kit for sale on the internet.

i am by no means an expert or insider, but since no one had posted any response to this topic, i thought i would chip in what i know.

Has anyone heard what has become of the 1/32nd scale Wildcat from Trumpeter? I know test pressings were pre-viewed with less than overwhelming acceptance. Last I heard, the kit was going to be revised. Any ideas how long this takes?
Any guesses or "inside info" on a new release date?
