Hi Guys
Has anybody out there built this sea harrier. Whats the detail like on the kit. Is it raised or recessed panel lines. How old is the kit.
Any info will be helpful

The FRS 1 is not Tamiya's greatest achievement.
I would put it on par with the Airfix GR3 from the 80's.
It has raised panel lines and I wish someone would release a decent 1/48th
scale GR3as both the FRS1 and GR3 are both sitting in their respective boxes
As they are both - the only game in town,so to speak, I suppose I will have to finish them eventually but they are not very inspiring.

The Tamiya kit dates from the late 70's early 80,s.
if I remember correctly, it was modified from their AV8A kit.

Yepper, the Tamiya Sea Harrier is kinda ugly.

The latest rumblings out of the rumor mill include Hasegagme doing a Harrier in 48th, no mention of what variant. We can keep our fingers crossed that 1) this is more than just a rumor and 2) it might be a Sea Harrier.

I'm dying to build XZ457 of 800 NAS which was used to down four Argentinean aircraft over the Falklands. (2 Daggers and 2 Skyhawks)

I'd also like to build a Gr.3 of 1(F) Sqn RAF. A total of ten (I think) of these aircraft were modified for shipboard operations and for the air-to-air role to supplement the Sea Harriers.

We can only hope...

i have the model but I haven't actually finished it. The lines are raised and there are ejection marks on some parts that will lead u to erase (and probably rescribe) some details (there are some on the inside of the removable engine cover that makes me to prefer posing it closed). I find the fit decent tho. I like how the engine builds but again, the seams will be hard to get to because of the line detailing. it is a shame that I will have to keep that nice little thing inside it's fuselage. From the looks of it, I would agree with oggy. It looks like an old Tamiya kit (20-30 yrs). I wouldn't say it is bad tho. I have seen worst kits Monogram and Revell.

Thanks for the info guys.

Yes Hasegawa are releasing the Harrier AV-8B HARRIER 11 IN 1/48TH SCALE. Its mentioned in the 100th issue of Tamiya model magazine just out and it shows the boxart.

By the way has anybody got the new italeri sea harrier in 1/72 and built it.
