Academy MIg-21

I read somewhere that Academy's 1/48 Mig-21MF is not really an "MF" but a Mig-21bis! Is this true? If so, Does this kit build accurately as a "bis" or do I have to convert anything? Also, are there available decal sheets and references? Thnx!

Look for MIG-21 Fishbed in action, # 131. It says in the book that the MIG-21bis was a redesigned MIG-21MF. The bis had a wider and deeper spine. The cockpit instrumentation was replaced with the type used in the MIG-23.. Most of the changes were internal.

Markuz,

Yepper, the Academy 'MF' is, indeed, more representative of a 'bis'.

Here's a few sites you may find useful:

http://www.yumodel.co.yu/yugoslav_air_force/mig21_fishbed.htm
http://www.mig-21.de/Default.htm
http://216.110.156.31/mig21.htm

If you can get your hands on the Aerofax book, it's worth the money.

If you wanna go ahead and try to build an 'MF', the VP Lock On book is excellent:

If I ever build a 'bis', this will be it!

I read somewhere that the Indian decals provided with the kit was indeed a for the "bis" and not for the "MF." I decided to go finally for a bis to save money and use the Indian scheme. Would there be a large difference with the cockpit instrumentation between the "MF" and the "bis?" I already bought the Eduard Zoom PE set for this plane but since I the it wouldn't be a true MF, I dunno which ones can be retained for this model. I would really appreciate any reply.
