Jeremy,

check this site http://www.internetmodeler.com/

on this site there is a review of this kit.I recently bought here in The Netherlands and I must say that I like it more than the Classic Airframes example mainly due to the fact that all moving control surfaces are seperate included the wing slats. The interior is a little spars and the ribbed effect on the rear fuselage is a little bit heavy but a few strokes with sand paper will remedy this. But the main reason that I picked the trumpeter kit is the price over here in Holland the CA costs nearly $70 while the trumpeters is nearly $31 . and when youre on a tight budget like I do than the choice is made. And since I always scratchbuildt he interiors
I only uses the exterior of the kits I build(call it a habit left over from the time when I used to work at the Fokker Aircraft factory building cocpits for the Fokker 100) so in this case the choice was easy for me. The only kit I build SOB was the p-47 razorback from Tamiya and maybe later the Gekko from the same company.

hope this is some help

Kind of weird when a long neglected bird like the SM 79 is suddenly kitted in 1/48 scale by two manufacturers. Classic Airframes has two versions available while Trumpeter has only released the SM.79-II torpedo version. Both are excellent kits, although I have only built the Classic kit ( so far ). The Classic kits provide more detail parts and a superior decal sheet which accounts for some of the higher cost. The Classic kit requires care and patience but no major problems. Haven't started Trumpeters kit yet but it looks very good on the sprues.

dear sm 79 fans out there:
I have built 2 classic airframe versions and the trumpeter version. I have one classic airframes in reserve. Let me say this--The trumpeter kit, I had to scratchbuild the rear aileron with plastic cards cuz it looks 2 small. But over-all the trumpeter kit has more detailed machine guns than the classic airframe versions. The classic airframe versions look like the real thing--but you can make the trumpeter elegant with a little bit of scratchbuilding like I did....
both are Great models!
Great modelling to us all...
