Warbird Modeling polls
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, July 23, 2003 9:52 AM
I'm sort of breaking our rule about cross-posting here. But because I suspect not everybody visits the Feedback topic every day AND I'm trying to satisfy my curiosity about how Warbird Modeling is being received.......let me alert our aircraft modeling fans that there's a small informal poll about Warbird Modeling that you might enjoy taking:

part I:

I've already participated in the polls, but I'd like to make some addtional comments here.

At first, even though I really liked the rag in and of itself, I criticized FSM for doing this special ish in the manner that it was done.

But after much reflection, I've come to accept that this is, indeed, a good thing. I suggested, half tongue-in-cheek, that FSM got lazy with this one. Not that it doesn't take alotta work to put a magazine together, whether it's a pseudo-dupe of another rag or not, but I meant 'lazy' in regards to scouting for material.

Since then I've come to realize that, similar to ProModeler releasing Hasegawa and DML kits, FSM, by producing this rag in cahoots with Model Expert, has introduced some really great work to many of those in the modeling community who may otherwise not have been exposed to it.

So I guess you could say that I've changed my tune on this one... Blush [:I]

I'd like to make a comment as well...:)

The special was very nice...for the material it contained.
I was a little dis-appointed in the content of the articles though. I guess you could say that this a 'left over' or 'a straight copy' from the original. But I have to say that most of us expect far more detail on the build-up of each of the subjects. It just seemed to me that the 'text' was very superficial. Basically ended up being a bunch of pictures with very little explanation of the work that went into the subjects.

EDIT: I went back and re-read some of the articles and I have to admit that some of them did have some good work explanations........Clown [:o)]........maybe I should not be so harsh

I agree with Blackwolf's last statement. Whatever some might think, Kalmbach's cooperative effort has enabled those of us on this side of the pond to see some really good work that ordinarily we might never get to look at. Thanks Lawrence and Dave. I appreciate the effort. - Ed

I just received my copy and I have to admit that some of the articles are in lacking of some of the more detail work done on the interiors, plus they needed to supply the pix on what mods they did, the B-17 was done very well but the rest needs to be addressed with that lack of styling of the detailing, but the subjects where done excellantly and makes me want to get back to the good ole US of A and hit the kits hard

Well....I enjoyed it!Normally I model armor, but I am FANATIC about IL-2 Forgotten Battels(flight sim for PC).The sim allows you to specify sqadron markings for your aircraft. The pics fo Fw-190's,and Bf-109's were a great reference.I read everything and anything related to the hobby. In my opinion,it was a nice piece of work.

I've sent a e-mail describing my thoughts on this issue. I was just wondering how those patricular models were selected and if there are plans for another War Bird issue?

I'm sorry, but I posted the article; "Aeronca Champ past over.... " before seeing this thread, but was addressing the fact that there exist practically every Warbird type, several in multible scales, under the sun already.... so why hasn't anyone considered producing a mid 20th Century General Aviation Training Aicraft series, the very type most of the Warbird Pilots learned to fly in? ie: Champ, Chief, Luscomb, Taylorcraft, etc

Thanks,
Frank

I was disappointed in this special issue. Why? Well, as I am sure others have mentioned, it was a rehash of another magazine. Nothing to my knowledge was said about that upfront in the marketing lead-up to its release. I was also disappointed that it was limited to one scale, I would have liked to have seen 1/72nd and 1/32nd scale included. While some of the content was of a benefit to me, I found most of the text to be superficial at best.
