Hasegawa 1/48 Japanese
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, July 24, 2003 12:48 PM
I've always wanted to try a Japanese aircraft, since I want to practice with extremely weathered paint. I bought 2 Hasegawa 1/48 kits today. One is the Nakajima kate and the other is the Saiyun (Rainbow Cloud). From the look of it, the kits seems very well engineered and molded. But just out of curiosity, is there any aftermarket parts or is their any deviations from the kit instruction that I should follow? I know sometimes the instruction booklet aren't very accurate...

I've built 2 of the Kates. Excellent kit with no significant problems. Only aftermarket I used were PE seat belts from Eduard. Kit instructions are fine but I always modify to suit my building habits.

Why are there so many darkened "parts unused" on the parts diagram. Do Hasegawa just make one mold for an aircraft and just change the decals/instructions for a particular model?

The booklet just provided marking and decal for the "green" version, but I want to do a "gray" version. Is it possible?

For those 2 kits I bought, the instruction only has closed canopy. What about opened canopy!?

Okay nevermind the above 2 postings. Problems solved. Anyway, I wonder if all the Japanese aircraft in WW2 had poor paint which always chipped...

Those 2 aircraft I bought are really small and the instructions is only a couple of pages...really simple build. I wonder if anyone can win IPMS with any of those...
