No offense to anyone, but models of cars, ships and even some armor never look as realistic as aircrafts.Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]

Ships are too big, so when you scale it down, it's impossible to have all the details.
Cars are to small to start with, so when you scale it down, many details are lost too. (Except motorcycles and 1/12 scale autos)
Aircraft is just right...Smile [:)]

That's a shame, I DID have a beer in front of me when I responded first (kind of explains the tone huh?). I wasn't trying to be mean (at least not at first).Evil [}:)]

No, I'm not trying to get to 100 posts, Kugai!
Although this one does get me one step closer!! LOL!
Whats funny about this particular question is that it sounds like one of the ones that comes up after the IPMS meetings, only we're not at Friday's and I DON'T have a beer in front of me!!

Leave those guys alone, someone has to build targets for all those loitering strike aircraft! LOL

Cuz it takes SKILL to fly a helicopter, any idiot can fly an airplane!

LOL... in all seriousness, I started with aircraft years ago. I got interested in Armor a few years back when I was attending IPMS meetings in CT where Steve Zaloga was a member. Great guy and really taught me how to build Armor models. Since then I've bounced back and forth between armor and aircraft, but I really think that Helos are the perfect balance between the two. The weathering works similarly and helos get down and dirty rather than flying high (over 1000 ft) and fast over the battlefield.

Plus, as a hopeful future Apache pilot, I wanna make sure I know every inch of that bird before I even get near her. By modeling MANY of them, I get a little better at where each item is located and what it does. Doesn't get any better than that!

Lemme guess, Carlos, you're posting these to get to that magical "100 posts" status ASAP.Smile [:)]

I started with airplanes, but now most of the old closet space is taken up with sci-fi kits. What's the point? I'm a SF fan ( duh! )!Big Smile [:D]

Good point!
Why not?
And yes, aircraft have been pulling me away from the autos lately.
I don't think that they are the ONLY way to go, but dammit they sure are cool!

Carlos

hou_ge2000,
You should post that same question in a couple of other subjects! It'd be interesting to see what the other groups' reactions would be!

I build all across the board, and I will say that you can learn a lot that way, from weathering to building techniques. It gets you outside of the box you are comfortable and gives you more to draw on when building or solving problems.

Just remember each of the other genre's could ask the same question.

Personally I build whatever catches my eye!

Used to be that if it didn't have at least four tires and eight cylinders(or at least a replica thereof) I wouldn't go near it...ok...maybe dabble a little in sci-fi...but you can't prove it in court!! (there's nothing wrong with sci-fi! So anybody who is a fan of it don't send me a bloody taarg's head! Klingon pet? Anyone, anyone?)

Point being, ever since I started going to the local IPMS meetings about three months ago, I've been turned on to a WHOLE new world of modelling.
Killer aircraft, cool armor, and a few ships too!

Then again, whats the point of any of it? Its just painted plastic!
Of course, I think that it keeps me from visiting the local water tower with a high powered rifle... :D

Ah. a setup question. Well, I'll answer to the best of my abilities. True, I'm an armor builder who happens to skim through the aircraft forum as well as others to see what others can teach me or just to check others work. My answer would be to each his own. Some of us have dreams of flying, others driving an M1, still others owning that 61 SS Impala(mine) and so on. For each one of us this is as close as we'll ever get to our dreams. Also for us historians, it's a great way to have a little piece of it before our eyes. I'll bet the vast majority of model builders build more than one medium, so in a sense the person that just builds aircraft and only aircraft would be a minority builder. Perhaps a future poll on multi subject builders? Of course I'm not taking this question seriously, just teasing a bit. Wink [;)]

I was going to ask what the point of building an aircraft was. Then I remembered that I am building a F3F-3 (the 1/32 classic Monogram kit), just one of 5 in progress, but the only aircraft the house.Tongue [:P]

So I have to ask you "Why build what obviously is the most popular kits?"Sad [:(]

I don't listen to Britney Spears, N-Sinc, Shania Twain (she ain't country no matter what she says), rap, hip-hop, or any of that "American Idol" crap (see dictionary under karaokee). Why should I do what "everybody" else is doing? Evil [}:)]

What's the point of building models of armor, auto, ships, figures, sci fi, or anything non-aircraft??? I don't get it.Big Smile [:D]
