Regulus II info
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, January 30, 2003 9:09 PM
Just read the Dec 2002 issue of Wings magazine. I have a couple of the old Revell Type S models of the Regulus II. and I am looking for photos or drawings of the booster assembly and the ground and submarine launchers. Any advice appreciated.

Larry,

I hope this gets to you after so long since you posted your Regulus Two question. I myself have been trying to get Regulus information on the first Regulus. In doing so I searched the Fine Scale Modeler web for Regulus information and found your posting.

There is quite a lot of information on the Regulus Two on the web. If you go to google and type in Regulus it will take you to a host of sites that cover the Reg Two.

I find it quite interesting that your favorite saying is the motto of the USS Tunny SSG282 the first Regulus submarine to launch a missile. I myself am a militery retiree of 31 years with the first part of my career in the Navy on the Regulus One project. I had an opportunity to ride the Tunny while I was stationed at the Submarine Base Pearl Harbor.

If you get this let me know and as I search for my information I will pass along to you anything I see on the Reg Two. My address is RSaddlemire @sc.rr.com.

Regards,
Richard

Go to the following link for the website of the USS Growler. There you will find a link to a Regulus website. You should find some information here and you can read a chapter of the book Regulus: The Forgotten Weapon. There is also a DVD out about the Regulus program. I've seen it online and now I can't find it.

I was about to post the website of the Growler, but breezely1 beat me to it. Wink [;)] I think stinger may have taken a few pics of the Regulus I on display in the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum... if all you're after are the rocket boosters it might help, though i'm not entirely sure they used the same ones. Smile [:)]

The Regulus One used a pair of boosters, one on each side aft of the wings. The Regulus Two used just on mounted below and aft of the jet engine intake. The USS Growler did in fact launch both Regulus missiles. The Regulus on display at the Growler museum does not have any boosters attached.
