Posted by Anonymous on Friday, January 31, 2003 4:57 AM
Hi,
The Revell 1/32 scale F4F Wildcat how good is it , what's wrong with it, does it take a pro to fix it, what are the wheel well colours/cockpit coloursI am an average modeler who does not want to spend years working on it!! What needs to be done if I want to make a FAA Martlet. Should I not bother and buy the Trumpeter F4F?
Many thans for your help.

I believe the wheel wells as based on the Detail and Scale series book is white, the landing gear struts from the axle to the oleo are black, and from the oleo to the attachment point they were usually white. The cockpit was Interior Green, except the coaming which was either dull dark green or exterior color. I don't recall specifics about the Revell 1/32 kit, but many Wildcat kits of its vintage suffer from simplified detail, raised panel lines, and mixups in engine cowlings. The cowlings differ according to version as to scoops, size, etc. Most preserved Wildcats are FM-2s, which have the Wright nine-cylinder single row engine rather than the P&W 14-cyl 2-row engine of the earlier versions. The exhaust arrangement is different, as is the cowling diameter.
