Residue on canopies from masks,removal of.

Hello All
I am in the finishing stages of the Accurate Minatures B-25 and when I removed subject masks from canopies and windows they left a LOT of residue. What is the best way to remove this residue? I tried Rubbing Alcahol,Detergent and warm water to no avail. What did work for me to about a 95% degree of satisfaction was.....................Crest Toothpaste and a Q-Tip scrub!! Can anyone offer a method that would cure this 100%?
By the way,I did dip all the clear parts in Future and left them to dry for 48 hrs prior to the masking.

Dear Teise,

try using a piece of cellutape or any other kind of masking tape and this on the residu of the masks this will remove it . sometimes it must be done several times.

Try "Simple Green" and a Q-tip...... This may take several tries, but the solution is mild and shouldn't damage paint.

You have to be very careful w/ Simple Green. If not diluted, it will eat straight through paint, leaving a nicely colored bubbly mess. My advice is to go with the tape method, as there's less risk of damaging the model's finish.

I'm sure demono69 is right....... I used simple green very sparingly........ Only enough to moisten a Q-tip, and with several tries and gentle pressure...... Other methods are probably better, though.......

What are simple green and goo gone? Sound useful but I've never heard of them - probably called something else here

Goo Gone is made (I believe) from some kind of citrus oil and gets sticky adhesives off easily and I've never found it to damage plastic or Future. I wouldn't know how it might be marketed in the U.K.

One item that has worked extremely well for me in removing the film and also removing minor scratches is McGuires Clear Plastic Polish. It is available at auto paint and body shop supply stores.

Another source will be clear plastic polish that Police Supply companies use to polish out lightbars on police cars. This is available in three different grits from course, medium to fine. They also have a pump spray for "monthly maintenance" that is called a cleaner. Apply with a Q-tip and polish with a soft terry cloth. Makes canopies crystal clear.

glad to help. i used it last night on a CF-18B. Bare Metal Foil and Tamiya Masking Tape. pristine in seconds and no damage.
