To all you atheists and agnostics out there...HERE IT IS!.I ask you.-What more proof could you possibly need that a loving God is watching over us all, than the appearance of Swastikas in a 1/72nd scale Hasegawa FW-190 kit?

Sorry, duckman--couldn't resist

As best as I understand it because I've heard different versions.
As long as a kit isn't intended for worldwide distribution, kit manufacturers may produce the swastika.
The problem is that the swastika is banned in some European countries.
I'm sure someone out there will jump in if I'm not clear on this.
I recently built Revell of Germany's model of the Hindenburg. The Hindenburg displayed large swastikas on its tailfins, but all I got on my decal sheet were four red squares with a white ball in the middle leaving me to have to purchase a sheet of aftermarkets to stick in the center of the ball.
Happily for you, your Hasegawa kit left nothing to be desired.('cept a seat)

Now get down on your knees and give thanks!Smile [:)]

I second the above. I was pleasantly surprised when I opened my Pro Modeller Ju88A-4 to find large, lovely swastikas on the decal sheet. Rather ironic that it's a German company including them...

My AMtech kit included Xs with the arms seperate. The instuctions show their position with a boxed X.

Hobby shop in Australia. Hasegawa FW 190 D kits. Some had swastikas, some had those black squares over the tail on the box art. The ones with swastikas were old stock and therefore cheaper. Wonder what theyll be worth in twenty years time when all kits have deleted swastikas?

The single most controversial topic in our hobby, I'd say.
I too built the Revell Hindenburg, and had to get a separate sheet of Swastikas to fill in those big white disks.
Then I had a friend visit and ask, "Hey, why do you have a Nazi bomb hanging from the ceiling?"
Once I explained to him the differences between a zeppelin and a bomb (actually, not much difference in the case of the Hindenburg, unfortunately) we had a long discussion on the ethics of using that image.
Very controversial issue.

No problem here in Japan, though.

J-Hulk

My model of the Hindenburg isn't exactly one of my wife's favorites, partly because she doesn't share my enthusiasm for airships but primarily because of those swastikas.
She asked me why I couldn't just use the modified decals that came with the kit and I explained to her that like it or not it's a matter of historical fact that the actual Hindenburg had swastikas emblazoned on its tailfins. If I'm going to model a piece of history I want to make it as accurate as possible or why do it at all?
By the way, this kit had probably the fewest pieces of any that I've ever done but did you find attaching those engines to be as big a pain as I did?Black Eye [B)]Smile [:)]

Absolutely! Those engines drove me mad! Seemed so simple at first, until I tried to do it. It turned into one of those "escalating frustration" affairs where things seemed to get worse as I progressed. Then I finally got them all on straight, and considered it a valuable stress-management learning experience.

Big Smile [:D]...LOL at the recognition of that statement! [yes, it's funny now]
[I thought I was going to be defeated by a kit that probably has no more than 40 parts.
At least a half a dozen times I thought it for certain was going to end up as a Lakehurst "final landing" diorama.
Getting that last engine assembly on was the worst. [I wrestled with it for more than two hours.
I had originally planned on doing the Graf Zeppelin II as well but I think I'm going to skip that and do something a little less challenging like maybe Academy's 800+ piece F/A-18!

It was a struggle, that's for sure!
That's a kit that would really benefit from a nice PE set. The engine struts, props, etc.
Throw in a few Swastikas, and it'd be the perfect aftermarket accessory for the ol' H-Burg and G-Zepp!

It's kinda sad that so many people would rather deny history than learn from it...

And we modellers are stuck in the middle!

Back in elementary school I would draw airplanes with my free time, and once a teacher spotted my Me-109 stuck on the wall, swastika and all! That was an interesting trip to the principal's office!

well my tamiya 1/700 z-destroyer has 4 options for the german flag. 2 straight and 2 waving, one each with a swastika and one each with a white circle. the painting on the box however displays the flag without the swastika.
