                        Hey guys,
                        Well heres another build of mine. This time its Tamiyas 1/48th Dewoitine D520.
                        The kit builds into a nice lookin bird w/ no major fit problems to speak ofSmile [:)]. OK the fit of the main canopy was a lil too small if ya wanted it in the open position.
                        I wanted somin different so I started to do some hunting!! The time that I had spent looking for a interesting scheme, it was right under my nose.
                        I found the scheme in the "In Action" book which after doing a little bit more of research, the photo was kind of rare.
                        Anywho the a/c is done up in the standard French markings but w/ a twist.
                        US airmen painted the Dewoitine using US standard colors and adding red, white and blue to the propeller so when it spun, it resembled the roundel.
                        The time frame was just after WWII and the field is not known aswell as the unit that the D520 belonged toSad [:(].
                        I used the "smudge wash" to highlight the panels w/ some pastel chalk for some additional weathering.

                        Another great looking bird butz. That canopy is almost like it's not even there. I just screwed up the canopy to my f-18 a couple of days ago, gonna have to order a new one. I seem to get more and more impressed with a good canopy the more I try to fool with them. Very good job all around, keep up the good work, and keep posting pics for me to be jealous of.

                        "Smudge Wash"
                        Hey colin,
                        Want to know about the "smudge wash" do ya?? Well here it goes in a nut shell.
                        First off your model has to have a gloss coat to work smoothly. Once you have let the gloss coat dry for a day or two, now you can proceed w/ the wash.
                        I use a water based paint usually dark gray or scale black and use distilled water as my thinner as you could say.
                        The ratio of paint to distilled water is up to you. I have a tendency to go a lil more w/ the distilled water.
                        Once the wash is made, I then start to apply this method with a fine artist brush.
                        I target any kind of detail such as landing gear,wheel wells, panel lines and what ever else I see fit.
                        I usually wait 5-10 minutes, then I go back over the areas that I have applied the wash to and wipe off any access wash with a soft moist towel(bathing cloth).
                        You may repete the process as many times as you like or till you get the desired lookWink [;)]
                        The process to doing the wash may seem a little tediuos but the final results are pretty impressive. Well at least I think so but then again 5 out of 4 voices agree w/ meTongue [:P]Tongue [:P]Tongue [:P]Tongue [:P]Tongue [:P]Tongue [:P]Tongue [:P]

                        The weather is hot and wet. We have had rain everyday for the last seven weeks. I now have lake front property just outside my front door.

                        The model room is nice and cool and dry. Spend a lot of my time in there as it is too wet do do any thing outside.

                        Very nice Plane Mike, congrats, the paint looks great and also the Dio looks very realistic, can you tell me how did you make that diorama? i would like to try to do something like that (diorama), and please can you explain me what is a smudge wash?? is that the kind of wash where you paint all the panel lines in black first and then apply a light coat of paint??

                        Oooooh, check out the big shiny photo! Very nice! I really like the color of the body of the plane. It's such a pretty blue-grey. And since you asked mike, I'm in the middle of building p-40b. Debating about whether to paint it up like a flying tiger or standard army pearl harbor defender. Any thoughts?
