Does anyone know
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, August 5, 2003 4:06 PM
My father, who died in 1989, was in the Air Force from '41 to '61. He flew a B24 D during "Operation Tidal Wave" to Ploesti, Romania. I remember seeing the picture on the wall of him and his crew with the Liberator. I have a Monogram 1/48 B24 D that I would like to do in his markings. I have Google searched "Operation Tidal Wave" and gotten stories on only the Medal of Honor winners that day. Does anyone know of a site where I could find this info ? He later flew P51s in Italy, and actually saw Mussolini (in Milan ?) hanging. Like so many other veterans of this era, he never said much. I sure would like to have a replica of either his B 24 or P51. Can anyone help ? I would be gratefully indebted to you. Thanks, Pix

I would suggest contacting the USAF public relations people. There are a lot of guys who do private research into serials, codes and individual aircraft markings and if the USAF couldnt help you they could probably direct you to the right people. If no joy, you could look up the association for the air force group involved. Theres a whole network of people who do nothing but research the 5th air force history in the pacific, so I imagine there are similar groups who deal with the European air forces.
