With so many modelers of WW II aircraft at this site, I am surprised that no one has mentioned the events of August 6, 1945. It was the event that rendered the invasion of Japan unnecessary, one that would surely have been costly to both sides. It also let the "Genie out of the bottle." A terrible weapon that ended a terrible war. Let us be thankful that it produced so many objects for us to model. I don't intend for this comment to be a "for or against" poll about the bomb. I am only saying that I feel that we, as modelers, owe a significant debt to those who went before us.

Pix,
The significance of the date didn't escape me. I was going to make mention of it myself but didn't really know what to say.
I think you stated it quite well.

My dad would have participated in the invasion of Japan. Often when I look at my model of Enola Gay I sometimes wonder if had it not been for the successful mission of this aircraft and Bock's Car three days later, how many of us wouldn't even be here today.

You're right. It is a significant debt we owe those guys. And one that can never be repaid.

Yes, its a touchy subject, and I wanted to avoid generating a controversy of opinions. I thank you. We all have so much for which to be thankful. Pix.

Has anyone seen the Travelers channel about Las Vegas? They do a great segment on the testing grounds for the weapons. It is amazing what you can see. Craters, buildings and vehicles, all subjected to above and under ground blasts. Just an eye opener.

Then of course in the next segment, they visit what Nevada is known for. Just makes you wonder.
