Westland Wyvern
Posted by elfkin on Saturday, August 9, 2003 1:54 AM
Hi everyone...could use some help! I bought a Wyvern 1/72 scale on E-Bay, it is the Frog-Rovex issue. The kit is in great shape except for the decals, which were quite yellowed and rather brittle. I have searched on several E-sites for decals specific to the Wyvern, and for Fleet Air Arm generic type sheets, to no avail. Does anyone have any ideas where to go for a set of decals? In addition to the Wyvern, I have also purchased a number of older kits that have the same problem. Any way to restore these? Thanks in advance for your help!!!

Hi Elfkin i can't promise on this but i may have a usable sheet from the original frog issue of this kit that i could part with. give me a couple of days to try and find it and i will let you know via this thread....Greg
BTW i may also have a spare vacform canopy for this one too. let me know if these will be useful. you could try giving one of those decal sheets a coat of laquer and then trim the decals close th the edge when you cut them out and try them out, but use one that you are not too bothered about just in case it all goes pearshaped. hope this helps....Greg

Hi Gregers...thank you very much for the offer. I was able to obtain a vacuform canopy through Roll Models. I will try the lacquer idea. It seemed to me that the Micro Sol people had a product out to help in such a situation...but that is but a faded memory of (MUCH) time gone by...to the tune of say 20 years ago when I bought my first Wyvern at the Squadron Shop in Chicago...long ago in a galaxy far far away...

With regard to your decals the yellowed ones can be brought back by placing them in a window in direct sunlight. this takes about three months or so depending on where you live. (It took about two months down here last summer).
Generic RAF types should be able to provide some of the FAA roundels.
