It all depends on what you are looking for in a model. Smile [:)] I prefer them because they cost less.Approve [^] And it allows me to perfect the techinques on a cheaper model.Tongue [:P] The selection is much better with Monogram/Revell.Cool [8D] I would rather ruin a $15-20 model than a $35 +model. But, I find they do need more work. Compared to the higher priced models. Hope this helps

Just my 2 cents worth

I find that the monogram/revell kits are pretty decent and pretty well detailed, especially for the cost. Could they use a little extra attention, yes - but all kits are like that.

For most of your subjects they are pretty good.

I wholeheartedly agree with the two above posts. "Good" is a subjective opinion. It depends on your needs, your experience, and your desires. They are certainly a great value for the money. Their Promodeler line, in my opinion, rivals many of the imported kits for detail & accuracy. Just checked your bio. Nice occupation ! Good luck, and, above all, have fun !

They are good for keeping the putty and sanding accessories makers in business!

It depends on the level of detail. When I started years ago, they were the benchmark. I still will build them due to cost and a good amount of detail. They do not cover all the time periods I am interested in and you have to dig to find some. But, the price id right.

Agreed with all the above and more....

I think Monogram's kits strike a excellent balance of cost vs. Quality (quality defined as accuracy, fit, detail, etc.) Their kits from the late 70s to mid-90's usually have raised panel lines, but excellent details, cockpits, but poor fit. Their kits from the 90's to present rival the best of the best with recessed panel lines, excellent detail, and better fit.

I cut my teeth on Monogram kits in the 80's- there was nothing better for low cost and great kits at the time and much of this still holds true today for those old molds.

Let us know what subject/specific plane your interested in and we'll give you some opinions on the kit.

T-34,

I responded to another thread called 'Manufacturer Evaluation' or something like that, and even though I got a bit long winded (me?) you may want to read the relevant part of that post concerning Revellogram. Their kits really are a mixed bag these days and it depends which one you go for sometimes.

Click HERE to go to that thread.

On the whole, yes, they're good kits. Some real humdingers and a few bow-wows too.

For the money, Monogram is very good in quality in my opion. They have never let me down in detail or authenticity. Props to Monogram!

in a word NO
save up your sheckles and get a quality kit.
If your sought after subject is not available from a quality manufacturer ,thats a different matter.
These guys have been flogging the same old moulds for the last 30 to 35 years but charging current prices , after all ,would you pay top dollar for a 1967 tv?

Some of them are great if you don't mind a bit of work, and etching new panel lines.

I've been disappointed by a few Hasegawa kits I've built lately - OK the detail's great and the fit is largely good, but the ones I built were let down by poor kit design in some areas and, in a few areas, very bad fit. Plus I couldn't help thinking I'd like to make something I have to put a bit more work into, rather than a kit that virtually falls together when you shake the box.

Anyway I tend to go for the subject, not the kit, and Monogram produced kits of a few subjects I can't see Hasegawa or Tamiya coming up with in the near future. Where else are you going to get an F-101, F-105, F-106 or Panther in 1/48, for example?
