Building and A/C Carrier deck diorama (or part of)
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, August 11, 2003 1:33 PM
I am trying to find a reliable source that would give the specifications I would need to build different parts of the aircraft carrier deck, i.e. the area where the a/c lands, takes off, elevators, etc. I need simple things too, such as measurement between the tiedown holes/rings. I would appreciate any help that could lead me to the right direction. I build in 1/72 & 1/48 as well as current carriers and WW II carriers. Thanks.

Just Plane Stuff makes an excellent resin carrier deck section in 1/48th scale. Well worth the money. I see Squadron carrying Just Plane Stuff products.

A nautical or military museum should provide good sources. I have seen some excellant books on carriers that had scale drawings.

I always wanted to build a modern carrier launch area (blast deflectors)
3d modelling is an option a true mental excercise in frusrtation

I'm on it too....

but no one could tell me where to find some drawings in Portugal (or if someone coulde send me a scan...), i'll just try to get the correct measurements from my 1/720 USS Enterprise... even if with an error the deck could be more 2/3 meters wide...Sad [:(]
Since i don't have any other source, i'll have to stick with it...Disapprove [V]
Currently i'm building all the aircraft types that served with the CV(A)N-65, and i think i'll get them all, but are a few that are tricky to find (HUP-2 Retriever, E-1B Tracer), and others i have, that finding the USS Enterprise decals are leaving me nuts (E-2C Hawkeye, EA-6B Prowler, S-3A Viking)...Angry [:(!]Dead [xx(]
But, hey, that's all modeling is about... if it was too much easy, it wouldn't be fun, right???Approve [^]Smile [:)]Approve [^]Smile [:)]

The just plane stuff site is awesome. However, the prices are very very high. They cost more than many models. Anyone know a site to show you how to build these things yourself? For instance, a section of Horney deck?

F14 Fan,

Mach 2 produce an E-1B Tracer in 1/72 if that helps.

Rob

I've already sent them a lot of e-mails, and zippo!!!!!!
Besides, they kits are not very cheap.... but anyway, getting a Tracker and the conversion for the Tracer would be more expensive...
And they also have the HUP-2 Retriever, but i know that the oldie Siga kit has the decals i'm after (USS Enterprise)...
So that's my "problem", should i get the Mach2 expensive kits, or hope that someone spot an HUP-2 from Siga????
Besides, i've read that the Mach2 aren't very accurate....

Hi Ricardo,

I got my E-1B from www.hannants.co.uk.

I'll admit, as a limited run, it's going to take a bit of work to get a decent result, but it is one of those obscure subjects that Hasegawa/Revell are unlikely to cover.

Not sure on the markings of their HUP-2, but the kit is definitely not a copy of the Siga one (At least, not according to SAMI)!

Anyway, Good luck,

Rob M.

Well, i've spotted both on hannants, but the decals from the HUP-2 aren't for the USS Enterprise (but are for US Navy, thought...)...
I'll have to think about it, since the price on hannants is more 5 US$ for the Mach2 price...
I know they have to get some profit, but...
And besides, with the limit of 30 Pounds for the overseas buyers....
I'm from Portugal, and i don't think they'll make an exception to me....
