I don't know if any of you live in the area, and if you do you should know about it already but just in case...
This weekend, August 16-17, Westfield, Massachusetts. Blue Angels will be there. I'm disappointed the B-17 cancelled.

Hey, plum ! I'm just up the road in Greenfield ! I'm gonna try to make it this weekend (I don't drive-thinkin about a bus). I noticed in your profile that you're into audio. I was a soundman for about 20 yrs or so. Stopped in '94 (no clubs left !) I was in The Joe Savage Band, Justin, TKO, Lodestar, Candy, Desire, Heroes in Trouble, and a few more I can't remember. Do you know of any of them ?

never met sylvana that I remember... I saw Justin at Riverside park in either summer 82 or 83. A few years later my sister was in a band that Livio was "producing". One thing to keep in mind is that I would have been 12 or 13 at the time of that show. Just a kid back then. My band experience was late 80's through 90's and my engineering experience was around the same time. I still do live sound once in a while but mostly recording in friends in my home studio. Can't let it go completely.

Yep, I did the Riverside show. It was summer of '83. The band broke up later that year. I can't let it go, either. In my home system, I have a mixing board for a preamp, a Crown CE-1000 power amp, dbx 231 dual 1/3 octave eq., & 2 pairs of JBLs (CF 120, J 620). I picked up a Lexicon MX 110 for fx in my video production classes. Can't listen to that consumer audio anymore !

I'm ridiculous, my "home" studio has an analog 16-track, and analog 24-track and pro tools mix. Add to that my other "hobbies" leaves me sleeping in the living room.

...then I need to move my sleeping arrangements every time I want to record a drum kit... Having hobbies can kind of suck sometimes. By the way, where do you shop in Greenfield? Down here (I live in Westfield) I have to go deep into Connecticut to find a good hobby shop. At least a half-hour trip.

I do the mail-order routine. I haven't bought a new kit in a while (told myself to build more before I buy more). I was ordering from Discount Hobby Center (PRICES THERE ARE 1/3 OFF RETAIL !), in upstate N.Y. I usually surf to find what's new, & order it from them. They don't list much on the web, but they stock it all. Flat $5 shipping charge (last time I ordered). They're at www.discounthobbycenter.com (I'm using the reply box w/o the options).

Hey boys, I'm planning on going too! I live on the north shore around Ipswich and Newburyport (Byfield to be exact). Should be a lot of fun, the weather is going to be great. I used to work at that airport at one of the FBO's.

Did you ever play Ramon's in Akron, Oh with Joe Savage?

I may get so drunk, I have to crawl home. But dammit, I'll crawl like a Marine.

Strangely enough I am going to be in Springfield Sat and Sun, wife has some business Sun for a few hours. Looks like Westfield is pretty close to there. Is it a nice show?

It's usually a nice show and only about 20 minutes from Springfield. Planes have been flying in all day.

Wayne -I played a club there in Akron in '80. Can't remember the name. Savage pretty much destroyed the club. The owner said he was remodeling, and paid us about $2000 extra to cause damage to the place. Guess it was cheaper than a contractor, and we drew good crowds when we played there.

Yeah I think your right, the crowd was smaller than I expected. Sunday is usually busier than Saturday though. It didn't help that there was a good deal of overcast. Funny how it seemed to be clearest over the airfield most of the day. Great show despite the humidity and heat.

Airshows! One of the main things I miss about the good ol' USA...after family and friends, of course!
I was talking to Darren about this the other day. Here in Japan we have the "Blue Impulse" (wonder where they got the inspiration for THAT name?), which is a very good flight demonstration team, but the shows are few and far between. The American bases have the ocassional open house, but no flying (other than the ocassional take off and landing).

With all the American bases here in Japan, I'm surprised that the Blue Angels or Thunderbirds don't perform here.
Do they do any international shows, for that matter?

The closest I got to airshows here was when I lived near Yokohama and saw F-14s, F-18s, and A-6s ferrying back and forth between the Kitty Hawk parked in Yokosuka and Atsugi airbase, which was a bit inland. That and the Japanese P-3C Orions that trained in the area.

Oh, what I'd do for a good airshow...

I've seen a documentary of the Blue Angels in Russia & other Eastern European countries. It was an incredible program that demonstrated that people, no matter where they were born, have more similarities than differences.
Wish I could've made the show this year. I only live 30 mi. north, but I don't drive (by choice). Taking a bus would have required a logistics skill far beyond my capacity. Oh, well. I saw the Blues when I was a kid, when they flew F-4s. I'll ALWAYS remember that ! ! !

The F-18 seems to be the airshow posterchild now.
