what brand of masking tape?
Posted by Anonymous on Friday, August 15, 2003 11:10 PM
to make a long story short... I built a model and left it unpainted, as soon as i got the compressor and airbrush, i decided to paint it (f-14 in black "vandy" scheme). I have put several coats of black and so far it looks great. Then i sprayed the nozzles with a steel color, naturally i got overspay on the nearby areas.

I need to apply a few more coats of black to cover up for the overspray, but i need to shield the nozzles with something. What kind of tape do you fine people use? will it ruin the paint once i peel it off? thank you in advance.

Hey stang,
I prefer to use "non porose" surgical tape(3M tape). It takes to shapes very well and is low tack too. I often use this type of tape to do hard line schemes because it leaves a nice clean line w/ no build ups of any sort..
Your local hospital supply store will have this tape which also comes in different sizes to boot.

This is a case of "You pays your money and you makes your choice".
I use Tamyia masking tape or Scotch Magic Tape.
If I am worried about the tape lifting off some of the paaint I stick it down to some glass and remove it before placing it on the model. Beware of metalic colours though because you only have to show them masking tape and they will peel!
