Metal finish
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, August 16, 2003 8:43 PM
What's the absolute best way to get a realistic metal finish? There's this metal engine that's very conspicuous and big. I want it to have the best finish possible. What are the options?

From what I know... enamels are better than acrylics for metalics, why?

Metalizer is even better, but the sealer will dull the finish.

Anyone tried those Alcads?

I've seen some fantatis work with Alcads.

You have a wide choice and each is as good as the other
bare metal foil - no experience
aluminum foil - patience and proper planning required, but inexpensive compared to Bare metal foil
SnJ metalizer and polish powder(s) - testors and such are good but very fragile.
Alcad - no experience with this stuff

I always seal metalizers - I have yet to detect that it takes away from the look - but that is just my opinion.

I think it all comes down to what you would feel comfortale with - spray vs burnishing
3d modelling is an option a true mental excercise in frusrtation
