Closet full of models ... is it just me? [:I]
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, August 17, 2003 2:31 AM
I love modern fighter jets, if a kit in 1:32 scale of a modern fighter jet (F-4 and onwards by my definition Clown [:o)] ) has been made I've pretty much hunted it down one way or another. I have some pretty rare beauties too Wink [;)]

Anyways, I recently took inventory of the "stash in the closet".My wife matter of factly pointed out that it takes me at least 4 months of spare time to build a kit and at that rate I would need to live until I was over 100 years old to complete the kits in the closet. - not to mention have full command of my mental and physical faculties Big Smile [:D] . A pretty stiff argument to beat when justifying the purchase of a new kit btw.

So the question I have for you all .... is it just me Question [?]... or are all of you also guarding closets full of kits that have a high probability of not being built Cool [8D]

Hey Blackwolf

Thanks for your pics. My wife has no complaints about the 20 or so models that I have waiting. By chance would you have an o-1 bird dog sitting around. If so, would you be willing to sell it?Wink [;)]Tongue [:P]Big Smile [:D]

LOL, I do what I can to help my fellow modelers!

If I remember right, Sled, you're looking for a 48th 0-1? I do have one of the Model USA kits but I'm going to keep it, unfortunately.

It's sort of an ugly kit, and I normally would be inclined to ditch it. But the Bird Dog was one of my Dad's faves and he never got to build any of his 0-1's, so I think someday I'm going to build it for him.

However, Butz has one I sold him sometime back. He may be tired of it by now so I'll inquire into it for 'ya.

Hey Blackwolf WOW what a collection, it sure puts my (at a rough guess) 2-3 hundred kits to shame. i recently started a build2 buy 1 policy to try and get the numbers down but it aint working too well(in the last month i have bought 2 and completed 0)but i have done some work on my Dambuster Lanc and a Russian Spitfire thats going to be the weathering job from hell, i am aiming at it looking TOTALY battered but still airworthy. anyway all my kits are stored in my model room which is in my loft and to get up there i have to climb a ladder then pull myself up through the hatch and as my wife isn't physicaly strong enough to do that it don't matter how many kits i have unbuilt or if i buy one that i allready have cos she wont know(unless she reads this of course then i AM in trouble, LoL)....Greg

I showed my wife blackwolfe's picts, and that still didn't change her tune - alls it got was a raised eyebrow and a roll of the eyesTongue [:P]. Luckily alls I have to do is point out the closet, bureau, and armoire and I am on safe ground again to my piddelin 200 kits stored in my loft/work area.Cool [8D]

Blackwolf, how old will you be when you've worked through that lot?

At my current rate, I'll be about 130 before my closet's empty. Assuming I don't buy any more. Not much chance of that happening!

Blackwolf- It's OK to have your models kept in the closet, as long as YOU come out of the closet :) LOL!

Ho Ho Ho, I couldn't resist making a funny at your expense, sorry! This topic should be re-nammed to: "Blackwolfscd Roast"

I just showed the above pics to my wife. Thanks, Blackwolf. Now she doesn't see much reason to complain about my collection. It pretty much fills my 7x4-foot walk-in closet and includes somewhere between 270 and 300 kits.

Wait, I just remembered something. She didn't have reason to criticize after seeing that 1:72 scale carrier with the full complement of planes, stores in the hangar, and internal lights a few years back. That quiet time lasted all of 2 months.Tongue [:P]

Oh, well. At least she's a psychologist. Whenever I do realize I need therapy for this obsession-inducing hobby, I can get it for free!

I couldn't even find my way back to "normal" with the Hubble!

Blackwolf-
would you happen to have a Mitsubishi 3000GT in that monstrous collection of yours? How about an Acura NSX? If so, would you be willing to sell?

So what's her point? As long as you have kits to build, you'll

my gosh, Wolf, you have a bigger inventory than HObbytown in Lexington, KY. I wish i could afford a collection like that, but i buy one, build one, buy one, build one. Being retired, i can spend as much or as little time as i want, and with no wife to put her foot down and come up with all those "honey dews", i have a good life.

As I said, I'm always happy to help out, especially in changing your better half's mind about your collections! Tongue [:P]

Now, I'm not the bragging type (ask Butz or Eagle334) but I ask, did ya'll notice the box of decals? If there's one thing in my whole model-related collection I'm rather proud of, it's the decals... Approve [^]

Of course, the kits are nothing compared to the books, rags and other reference... Wink [;)]

Someone commented on being able to afford such a collection. I have to admit that the vast majority of the cars in those shots belonged to my Dad. (He had a huge collection, at it's height he had around 4000 kits! Ive seen bigger collections, but that's still a ton...)

And the rest, well, I've been fortunate in that I've been in the hobby a long time (for my relatively young age) and have a good number of contacts and a nose for a deal. If I paid retail for one tenth of what you see there, that's alot.

A couple good ways to find deals is to go to shows, (always a good deal at a show) sometimes evilBay, (when the idjits aren't at play) and it also doesn't hurt to know a guy who changes modeling interests with the frequency of a cheap HAM radio, sells his entire collection at the drop of a hat and only asks pennies on the dollar! Big Smile [:D] Unfortunately for me, Dan the Man has calmed down and wisened up...

I was sooo happy when I finally found the Tamiya 1/48 UHU, and lo and behold, wolf's got 3 of them! No fair!

At least if I need a particular kit, I know who to beg.

All of my kits will be built at one time or another, it's just a matter of by who.

Blackwolfscd - after drooling over your amazing collection for the 3oth time - I noticed a couple of shelves there need some reinforcement :) . We're not ready up here in Vancouver for that "big earthquake" yet.
When those shelves give way I want to at least have my home reinforced :) LOL

Na he aint the bragging type!! I do have to say he is rather happy w/ his collection of decals!!
Yea know come to think of it, when I go over to his hobby shop I mean home, he is usually dusting his decals and putting on a coat of wax on there casings.
I thought one would do that to their sports car until I met himTongue [:P]Tongue [:P]Tongue [:P]Wink [;)]
Blackwolf is very helpful when it comes to this fine hobby of ours!!! His knowledge is up there w/ the best of them.
Wait a minute, Steve are you blushing??Tongue [:P]Tongue [:P]Wink [;)] Sorry bud I had to..!!
